ABOUT THE THEATRES

Professionally managed by the Ambassador Theatre Group, the historic Saenger Theatre delights audiences with over 100 performances a year, including concerts, comedy, Broadway, family shows and more. With a $53 million post-Katrina restoration and redevelopment project, the Saenger has been restored to its original form, bringing 1927 grandeur into the 21st century.

The beloved Mahalia Jackson Theater is among the cultural highlights of the city. Situated in Louis Armstrong Park next to the historic Congo Square, the Mahalia Jackson Theater seeks to honor the music and culture of the past while ushering in the best of performance art today.

ABOUT THE POSITION

  • The Saenger Theatre and Mahalia Jackson Theatre are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic ushers to join our highly skilled Front of House department for our future shows. The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service skills, be proactive problem solvers and effective communicators, be able to fully embody the company vision. Our usher team is essential to the successful running of our FOH operation ensuring our patrons have the very best experience. Reports to the Director of Theatre Services and Assistant Director of Theatre Services.  
  • COVID vaccination and a commitment to COVID-safe practices are required.

PEOPLE, PLACES, and THINGS

  • Attends pre-event meetings to obtain event specific information
  • Collaborates with other team members to accomplish tasks
  • Assists with the enforcement of company policies, with a focus on safety and customer service
  • Attends meetings and job trainings as assigned
  • Provides optimal assistance to patrons in an emergency or evacuation.
  • Responds quickly and courteously to patrons' needs, questions, comments, or concerns with answers and/or action
  • Provides accurate information to patrons regarding venue logistics (i.e. location of ticket office, restrooms, phones, concessions, etc.), details about the event, general building history, etc.
  • Positively accepts and fulfills other duties as assigned
  • Has the ability to stand for up to 5 hours
  • Has the ability to pick up and move 30-pound program boxes

EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • The ideal candidate enjoys working with public and providing excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated experience for problem solving while following established guidelines
  • Ability to maintain composure under stress and multitask

COMPETENCIES

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ushers are required to work a minimum of 2 events/month and must have at least 4 show weekend days of availability/month (Saturday & Sunday)
