Job Title: Cook –Reggio Academy

Reports To: Center Director / Manager

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children in our child care center. The ideal candidate will be passionate about children's health and nutrition, maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety, and comply with state and local health regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and serve daily meals and snacks that meet nutritional guidelines and food program requirements (e.g., CACFP if applicable).
  • Follow menus approved by the center director or nutrition consultant.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area.
  • Ensure all meals accommodate children's allergies, dietary restrictions, and cultural preferences.
  • Keep accurate food inventory and submit supply orders in a timely manner.
  • Store food properly and monitor food expiration dates.
  • Maintain daily food production records, temperature logs, and sanitation checklists as required.
  • Comply with all health department, licensing, and food safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to coordinate meal times and special events.
  • Follow center policies and procedures related to health, safety, and emergency protocols.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience cooking in a child care, school, or institutional setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of child nutrition, portion sizes, and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP).
  • Food Handler's Certificate or ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to lift 30+ lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check and meet licensing requirements.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Must be able to work early hours (as needed), typically aligned with center operating hours.
