Description
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to play a crucial role in our innovative team supporting a DoD Agency and the establishment of our client's Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office. This position will involve strategic consulting and implementation of best practices in data engineering, data management, and data quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic approaches for data engineering, management, and quality best practices
- Consult with stakeholders at various levels within the agency to inform data architecture and storage decisions in preparation for future AI and ML projects
- Design and propose scalable database architectures and ETL pipelines to support large-scale applications and future AI/ML initiatives
- Lead data engineering workstreams, coordinating with multiple teams to ensure alignment with the Chief Data and AI Office's objectives
- Support the development of comprehensive data governance frameworks and policies
- Analyze current data infrastructure and recommend improvements to support AI and ML readiness
- Plan and execute database re-architecture projects to optimize performance and future-proof data synchronization across environments
- Implement best practices for data quality, security, and governance in line with federal regulations and standards
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives within the Chief Data and AI Office
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data from multiple systems and provide advanced analytics solutions
- Participate in high-level meetings and presentations to communicate data strategies and progress to agency leadership
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Secret (or above) Security Clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field; relevant on the job experience preferred
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles, with a focus on strategic data initiatives
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and data modeling techniques
- Proficiency in Microsoft Power Platform to include Power BI and Power Apps development and data modeling
- Experience with big data technologies such as Databricks
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
- Expertise in database management systems and ETL processes
- Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices
- Familiarity with AI and ML concepts and their data requirements
- Experience in federal consulting or government contracting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning concepts
- Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLM)
- Understanding of federal data regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience in establishing or supporting data offices in government agencies
