Physical Education (PE) Teacher Position Overview

Job Status: Full Time, Exempt
Location: Las Vegas, NV (Central)
Reports to: Principal and/or Director of School Operations (DSO)
Compensation: Pay for this position is $20 per hour, total of 24 hours per week (Monday-Thursday; 8:45am-2:45pm)

As the Physical Education (PE) Teacher at WYLEES, you are a motivating, consistent, and caring presence in our school community. You are committed to helping middle school students develop healthy habits, teamwork, and resilience through physical activity. You are enthusiastic about fitness, sports, and wellness, and you model the importance of a healthy lifestyle for students.

Your role is essential to maintaining a safe, structured, and engaging environment. You will teach PE classes, foster sportsmanship, and create opportunities for students to grow physically, socially, and emotionally through movement and teamwork.

Responsibilities

What follows are the core responsibilities of WYLEES' Physical Education (PE) Teacher. However, given the complexity of school founding, an "all hands on deck" mindset is essential, and the PE Teacher should expect to occasionally perform responsibilities outside those captured here.

Instruction and Supervision

• Teach and supervise PE classes across grade levels.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and engaging environment for all physical activities.
• Uphold school-wide behavioral expectations consistently and fairly.
• Ensure students are actively participating and meeting class expectations.
  
  

Student Development and Support

• Provide instruction in fitness, health, and sports aligned to standards and WYLEES' mission.
• Facilitate lessons that build teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience.
• Support students in setting personal goals for physical fitness and wellness.
• Track attendance, participation, and student progress in PE.
  
  

Relationship-Building and Culture

• Establish positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with students.
• Serve as a mentor and role model, balancing firmness with encouragement.
• Communicate regularly with teachers and administrators about student progress and needs.
• Actively contribute to WYLEES' positive school culture and extracurricular opportunities.

Qualifications

Skills and Characteristics

• Loves working with middle school students and understands the challenges and joys of this age group.
• Energetic, consistent, and able to motivate students in a physical activity setting.
• Strong classroom and behavior management skills.
• Relationship-oriented and able to build trust with students.
• Reflective and open to feedback.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience

• Valid Nevada Substitute Teaching License (or higher Nevada teaching license) required.
• Prior experience teaching or coaching middle school students strongly preferred.
• Experience in PE, fitness, sports, or wellness instruction is preferred.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and basic classroom technology preferred.
