About the team and position
The Construction Manager is an energetic construction leader to join a rapidly growing organization.  We need someone who wants to be at the forefront of breaking ground in the tech industry…. And in commercial real estate The Construction Manager will lead a team responsible for building our large and distinctive industrial and retail properties. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience with ground up construction and a keen understanding of project management principles. The ideal candidate must also possess leadership and superior communication skills. Most importantly, you will see your insights have an immediate, tangible impact every day in an exciting and unique company.   

This is a primarily on-site position, Monday through Friday, at our corporate HQ in Tempe, Arizona. Travel required nationally - around 50%

What you'll be doing 

  • Lead a team of construction professionals to meet the rapid commercial real estate growth goals of the company.
  • Work closely with construction project managers in all phases of a project; design, permit, bid, build. 
  • Oversee project budgets and cost tracking to ensure leadership has accurate understanding of project cost and trends.   
  • Utilize expertise to provide support and facilitate the development and growth of team members as they expand their roles and responsibilities. 
  • Lead negotiations with external partners such as Architects, Civil Engineers, General Contractors, Utility Consultants, Soil Engineers, and other professionals to sync their objectives with the company's goals creating a win/win relationship.
  • Educate and promote the use of fundamental project management processes and methodologies.
  • Recognize the critical path of a project and work with the appropriate teams, both internal and external, developing plans to stay on track.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding project schedules, possible accelerations or delays and project budgets, cost savings and overruns. 

What you should have/know

  • 7+ years of experience in construction project management, specifically ground-up construction. 
  • 3+  years experience leading individuals and teams
  • A Bachelor's degree in construction management or related/relevant field is preferred
  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures and project management principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Must be proactive, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, ability to interface with a variety of personalities with professionalism
  • Proven track record of providing excellent internal and external customer service
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment, with an entrepreneurial approach to project management and a commitment to team support
  • Able to help create, develop, and implement process improvements
  • Must promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners
  • Must be proficient in standard office software applications (Google suite)
  • Must be willing to travel as necessary (up to 50% of the time)
