Job Summary

The Dietary Cook plays a vital role in supporting patient care by preparing nutritious, high-quality meals in accordance with prescribed dietary requirements and established safety and sanitation standards. The Dietary Cook ensures meals are tailored to meet the needs of patients, staff, and visitors, with attention to medical diets, allergies, and individual preferences. This position requires collaboration with other dietary and clinical staff to support the overall health and recovery of patients, while maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines and hospital policies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong culinary skills, time management, and a commitment to excellence in food service in a rural healthcare environment.

Duties

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals according to established recipes and dietary requirements under the supervision of the Dietary Manager.
  • Ensure all food is handled safely and in compliance with health regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
  • Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and assist in ordering as needed.
  • Serves meals to patients

Qualifications

  • Must be physically and mentally alert and able to perform duties of the job, which include reading, speaking, writing, and following oral and written directions.
  • Must know the basic principles of food cookery and be able to cook a variety of food in large quantities.
  • Physically able to walk, stand, and carry/ lift 20lbs up and down stairs, and may require work on knees or bending over. Position requires frequent standing and walking.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Must comply with all health care regulations, including HIPPA and OSHA
