Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative testing dates are offered at the school district throughout the year to West Ada Paraprofessional applicants. The test should be passed within 90 days of hire.

PURPOSE
Assists an elementary teacher with classroom duties; performs related work as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary function of an employee in this class is to provide classroom support to a teacher in an elementary school classroom designated as overcrowded. The position is directly supervised by a teacher, with direction from the building Principal. The primary duties of the position are performed in a classroom environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provides support to a teacher as directed in an elementary school classroom designated by the District as overcrowded;
- Provides tutoring, individual and group assistance, and direction to students;
- Assists in grading assignments, implementing lesson plans, and preparing materials and projects;
- Prepares bulletin boards and exhibits;
- Assists in classroom, as directed;
- Assists in preparation of classroom and teaching materials, as directed;
- Assists in preparing and maintaining files, reports, records, and documentation;
- May supervise classroom activities in the temporary absence of a teacher;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- May perform lunchroom, playground, bus, and other monitoring duties as assigned;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge of:
- Instructional methods, procedures, and objectives, including curriculum implementation, lesson plan preparation and implementation, educational software, student evaluation and grading, record and report preparation, and classroom management;
- Basic clerical skills, including but not limited to typing, keyboarding, filing, and copying.
- Follow oral and written instructions and observe District policies and procedures;
- Prepare and provide basic classroom services, including but not limited to, instruction, tutoring, student evaluation, lesson plans, curriculum implementation, materials preparation, and classroom management;
- Perform basic office tasks including keyboarding, copying, and filing;
- Prepare and maintain required records, files, reports, logs, statistics, and documentation;
- Operate standard classroom equipment, including computer equipment;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel;
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner;
- Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
- Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; and
- Classroom experience is preferred; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, communicate effectively in person, and to hear sounds within the normal range of conversation;
- Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and comprehend, prepare, and present a variety of written and text documents and materials;
- Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office and classroom equipment;
- Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to stand or sit for long periods of time, kneel, stretch, bend, reach, lift at least 30 pounds, and work in a classroom environment.
