Job Title: Director of Information Technology
Reports to: Vice President of DataTechnology
Location: St. Louis, MO
JOIN OUR TEAM
Guarantee Electrical is seeking a Director of Information Technology who understands that in electrical contracting, technology isn't just about keeping the lights on-it's about powering our competitive advantage. You'll be the architect of our technology infrastructure, the guardian of operational excellence, and the innovator who ensures our field teams have the tools they need to build tomorrow's electrical systems today. If you believe that great IT leadership means being both a strategic business partner and a hands-on problem solver, and you're energized by the challenge of supporting operations from the boardroom to the jobsite, we want to meet you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Drive Strategic Technology Vision You'll align IT initiatives with our business objectives, developing long-term strategies that don't just support growth-they accelerate it. This means understanding where the electrical contracting industry is heading, anticipating technology needs before they become urgent, and ensuring every technology investment has a clear path to ROI. You'll translate complex technical possibilities into business opportunities that our leadership team can rally behind.
Master the Infrastructure You'll oversee our entire technology ecosystem-from network infrastructure and servers to cloud services and everything in between. But this isn't just about maintaining systems; it's about optimizing them for both our office professionals planning million-dollar projects and our field electricians wiring complex installations. You'll ensure 99.9% uptime because when systems go down, projects stop moving.
Lead Technology Transformation You'll champion the implementation of game-changing technologies-from cutting-edge construction software to mobile solutions that put power in our field teams' hands. Whether it's integrating Viewpoint Vista, deploying Accubid, or leveraging Bluebeam for digital workflows, you'll ensure new technologies enhance rather than disrupt our operations. You'll be our chief innovation officer, always scanning the horizon for what's next.
Build and Empower Your Team You'll lead a diverse team of IT professionals-from desktop support to field specialists to project managers. But you won't just manage them; you'll develop them into technology leaders who share your passion for excellence. You'll create a culture where innovation thrives, problems are opportunities, and every team member understands how their work impacts our success.
Execute Complex Projects You'll orchestrate multi-location IT initiatives that would make most IT directors nervous-system implementations across dozens of sites, infrastructure upgrades during live operations, technology rollouts to hundreds of field personnel. You'll manage these projects with the precision of a Swiss watch, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery without disrupting the business.
Optimize Every Dollar You'll develop and manage IT budgets that maximize value while minimizing waste. This means negotiating with vendors like our business depends on it (because it does), finding creative solutions to expensive problems, and proving that technology investments deliver measurable returns. You'll treat the company's money like your own.
Ensure Business Continuity You'll develop disaster recovery plans that let our leadership sleep at night. When systems fail (and they will), you'll have backup plans for your backup plans. You'll ensure that whether it's a cyber attack, natural disaster, or simple hardware failure, our operations continue with minimal disruption.
Enable Field Excellence You'll ensure our field teams have the technology they need to work efficiently and safely. This means robust mobile device management, reliable jobsite connectivity, and field-specific solutions that work in the real world-not just in theory. You understand that a foreman's tablet is just as critical as a server, and you'll support both with equal dedication.
Partner Across the Organization You'll work hand-in-hand with our Director of Cybersecurity to ensure our infrastructure is both powerful and protected. You'll collaborate with business units to understand their needs before they become problems. You'll be equally comfortable presenting to the Guarantee Leadership Team, troubleshooting with field personnel, or strategizing with fellow directors.
Lead Through Acquisition As we grow through acquisition, you'll be the technology integration expert who brings new companies into our ecosystem seamlessly. You'll standardize systems, consolidate infrastructure, and ensure that newly acquired teams feel supported, not disrupted, by technology changes.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Deep IT Leadership Experience: 10+ years in information technology with at least 5 years in management roles. You've led IT teams through growth, transformation, and challenge. You've developed strategies, implemented them, and measured their success.
- Infrastructure Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of network systems, servers, cloud platforms, and enterprise architecture. You understand both on-premise and cloud solutions and know when to use each. You can design scalable infrastructure that grows with the business.
- Construction Industry Insight: Experience with electrical contracting or construction technology is preferred. You understand project-based work, know why jobsite connectivity matters, and speak the language of construction. Familiarity with Viewpoint Vista, Accubid, Bluebeam, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strategic Business Partnership: You think like a business leader who happens to be great at technology. You can translate IT concepts into business value, align technology initiatives with company goals, and influence without authority. You're seen as a trusted advisor, not just the IT person.
- Team Development Excellence: Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing IT teams. You hire for potential, develop for performance, and create cultures where talented people want to stay. You're a mentor who creates more leaders, not just followers.
- Project Management Expertise: Strong project management skills with experience leading complex, multi-location initiatives. PMP certification preferred but not required if you have the battle scars to prove your expertise. You deliver on time and on budget, period.
- Vendor Management Savvy: You negotiate like a pro, manage vendors like partners, and always have alternatives. You understand contracts, SLAs, and how to get maximum value from every vendor relationship.
- Financial Acumen: Experience developing and managing multi-million dollar IT budgets. You understand CapEx vs. OpEx, can build compelling business cases, and know how to demonstrate technology ROI to skeptical executives.
- Communication Excellence: You can explain complex technical concepts to electricians and electrical concepts to programmers. Your written communication is clear and concise. You present with confidence and listen with intent.
- Educational Foundation: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field. Or equivalent experience that proves formal education isn't everything.
WHY GUARANTEE?
As our Director of Information Technology, you'll have:
- Strategic Impact: Direct influence on the technology strategy of a growing, dynamic organization where IT is recognized as a business enabler, not a cost center
- Resource Investment: Leadership that understands technology requires investment and is willing to fund the right initiatives for the right reasons
- Growth Opportunity: As we expand through organic growth and acquisition, your role and influence will expand accordingly
- Industry Leadership: The chance to define what great IT looks like in electrical contracting, setting standards others will follow
- Cultural Fit: Join a team that values collaboration, innovation, and getting things done right the first time
- Work-Life Integration: While we work hard and occasional after-hours support is needed, we respect that you have a life outside of Guarantee
WORK ENVIRONMENTTRAVEL
- Primary Location: Corporate office
- Travel: Regular travel to branch locations and occasional jobsite visits (approximately 25%)
- Flexibility: Remote work options for specific situations, but presence matters in this leadership role
- On-Call: Availability during critical implementations and emergency situations
THE GUARANTEE WAY
This role is critical to living our five cultural pillars:
- Lessons Learned: You'll build systems that capture and share knowledge, ensuring every IT incident makes us stronger and every project teaches us something new
- Integration: You'll break down technology silos, ensuring systems talk to each other and teams collaborate effectively across locations and divisions
- High Risk Management: You'll implement redundancies, backups, and failsafes that protect our operations, ensuring technology risks never become business disasters
- Data Driven Decisions: You'll provide the infrastructure and tools that turn data into intelligence, enabling informed decisions at every level of the organization
- Leadership Development: You'll build technology leaders throughout your team and teach the organization how to leverage technology for competitive advantage
READY TO POWER OUR DIGITAL FUTURE?
If you're ready to be more than an IT Director-to be a business leader who happens to be exceptional at technology-we want to meet you. Join us in building the technology foundation that will power Guarantee's growth for the next decade and beyond.
Guarantee Electrical is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
