Position open to all qualified candidates.
Location: Mobile Wellness Unit (Various Locations in the County)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., 40 hours per week
Benefits: Participation in the County's group health plan including prescription, dental, and optical, paid holidays and sick leave. Optional deferred compensation program at employee's own expense.
Job DescriptionNature of Work:
Entry-level, non-clinical position focused on providing support to individuals recovering from substance use disorders and mental illness. Plays a vital role in engaging, educating and empowering participants to make lasting life changes. This involves addressing barriers such as criminal histories, transportation, childcare and job readiness. Key responsibilities include facilitating care transitions, coordinating with health care teams, and providing essential services, including harm reduction, overdose prevention education, naloxone distribution, and connecting individuals to health care, substance use disorder SUD treatment, and social services. Leveraging lived experience fosters connections with participants, validates their experiences, and models effective coping strategies. Maintain a small caseload, assist participants in developing recovery plans, and educate them on how to navigate treatment and social service systems. Conduct outreach activities in various community settings, which may sometimes occur in challenging weather conditions. Flexibility, safety awareness, and participation in required training and emergency response are necessary for this role. The ultimate goal is to reduce overdose risks, promote long-term recovery, and improve the overall health and wellness of individuals who use drugs.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Associate degree in behavioral health or related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Must be able to provide a personal statement describing what skills and abilities he/she/they have to offer to this field of work. Experience working with individuals on medications for opioid use disorders. Must be able to maintain daily contact notes, submit monthly reports timely and accurately, coach and model effective coping skills, and develop a relationship of rapport and trust. Strong communication skills with other health professionals, coworkers and clients. Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel. Professional demeanor.
License or Certification:
Certified Peer. If not certified, the expectation is that the applicant will be certified within 18 months of hire.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Strong knowledge of Anne Arundel County's substance use disorder system of care and resources.
