A Day in the Life

You arrive, review the day's blueprints, visualize the workholding strategy, and plan your sequence of operations. You dress a super‑abrasive wheel using diamonds and rotary dressers, dial in speeds and feeds, and run precise ID, OD, form, and surface grinds. You verify every critical feature with micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, and gauge blocks—holding tolerances down to 0.0001". When the job calls for it, you write or edit a CNC program right at the machine, and you often keep two setups running at once. Throughout the shift, you keep safety first, your area orderly, and look for ways to reduce setup and cycle time.

Shifts

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (OT as needed)
• Night Shift: 6:00 PM – 2:30 AM (Includes shift premium; OT as needed)

What You'll Do

• Set up and operate manual and CNC grinding equipment for precision ID, OD, face, angle, form, multi‑axis, and flat surface grinding.
• Interpret blueprints/layouts; plan operation order, fixturing, and cutting parameters.
• Select, dress, and maintain abrasive wheels (diamond/super‑abrasive; straight/angle/form using dress diamonds and rotary dressers); monitor wear and correct as needed.
• Grind a range of materials: aluminum, mild/stainless steels, hardened tool steels, tungsten carbide, and other ultra‑hard alloys.
• Program CNC grinders on the shop floor when required.
• Measure to 0.0001" using micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, height stands, gauge blocks/pins, etc.
• Apply trigonometry/geometry to calculate angles, positions, and offsets to meet blueprint specs.
• Diagnose and correct taper and other inaccuracies; apply sound setup principles.
• Run multiple machines concurrently while maintaining quality.
• Keep machines and work area clean; follow Belvac's Quality Management System and pursue continuous improvement to reduce setup and run times.
• Always operate equipment safely and follow all Safety Policies and Procedures.

Physical Requirements

• Stand for long periods (up to 10 hours/day).
• Operate overhead cranes; use proper lifting techniques and aids as needed.
• Good hand‑eye coordination; regular use of hand tools, files, sanders, and grinders.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
