ABOUT THE POSITION
The Department of Medical Education (DME) at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM) is recruiting a part-time (0.5 FTE), non-tenure Humanities faculty member with experiences to warrant a rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to join an innovative and forward-thinking team in developing and delivering an interdisciplinary osteopathic medical curriculum. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator with subject matter expertise in humanities as it relates to health professions education and practice. The anticipated hire date for this position is January 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will participate in Humanities Medical Education (HME) courses by identifying and building art-based and other experiential learning opportunities that center on medical humanities to improve the humanistic aspects of care by cultivating more well-rounded, empathetic, compassionate, and reflective healthcare professionals.
The successful candidate may also serve as Co-Course Director for foundational or organ system courses, contribute to program and University service, and pursue scholarly activities in support of the IllinoisCOM and the Chicago School mission. PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Teaching, Curriculum Development, and Student Success
- Participate in curriculum design, delivery, and evaluation to promote program excellence, student success, and continuous quality improvement
- Partner with operation personnel to facilitate curriculum delivery
- Promote innovative, evidence-based instructional methods and technologies
- Facilitate student coaching and ensure opportunities for student mentoring, scholarly activity and professional growth
Service
- Represent the College in professional and/or community organizations and events
- Assist where needed with student recruitment and community outreach efforts
- Participate in college and University committees
Research and Scholarly Activity
- Participate and collaborate in scholarly activities congruent with a faculty position
Basic Qualifications
- Terminal degree (PhD, PharmD, DO/MD) in area of expertise,
- Expertise in teaching subject matter in post-secondary, graduate or medical education,
- Ability to collaboratively and effectively work with faculty, staff and administration in the development of a new College of Osteopathic Medicine,
- Technical competence to support the development of curriculum, teaching materials, assessment items and to ensure continuous quality improvement,
- Desire to make lasting and meaningful changes to the healthcare landscape of Chicago and beyond.
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience in medical education teaching, assessment, and curriculum development.
- Facilitation skills for case-based and small group learning.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Dedication to osteopathic philosophy and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
POSITION DETAILS
- This opportunity is budgeted at $55,000 - $75,000 annually, base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
- The position is based on the Chicago, IL campus.
- While efforts are made to minimize the need, some work on weekends and travel may be expected.
- This role will report to the Chair of the Department of Medical Education.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

This opportunity is budgeted at $55,000 - $75,000 annually base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
