Position Characteristics:

Under the direction of theChief Financial Officerperforms professional accounting work requiring the performance of accounting activities. Work involves responsibility for the application of professional accounting principles, practices and techniques and the ability to apply them to COA accounting situations. Additional responsibilities include providing leadership and guidance for statutory and ad-hoc audits of grant sub-recipients and conducting fiscal monitoring of sub-recipients. Supervision may be exercised over clerical/fiscal personnel through the inspection of completed work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To reflect in all aspects of job performance the mission of the East Baton Rouge Council on the Aging, Inc. ?serving the elderly in East Baton Rouge Parish, to enrich and enhance their quality of life through advocacy efforts, creative planning, and coordination and provision of needed services, and to make it possible for them to live independent lives as long as possible.?
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying and reviewing transactions.
  • Routinely prepare, review, analyze and distribute financial reports, general ledger journal entries, bank reconciliations and other financial records. Supervise staff accountants.
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the agency assets are protected.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and support.
  • Responsible for accounting for revenue, receivables, cash and financial reporting.
  • Responsible for proper timing and application of revenue recognition rules.
  • Ensure that all financial records are maintained in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the monthly closing process including preparing or reviewing adjusting entries, account reconciliations and analysis, and producing internal financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Supervise staff accountants.
  • Assist with supervising and training staff and managing through mentorship, metrics, performance meetings and ongoing feedback.
  • Assist with continuous process improvement.
  • Produce month end reports for management as well as deliver reports and special projects.
  • Participate in work relating to external audits in the periodic review of the agency?s financial records and in the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience working in non-profit management is highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong written and oral communications; and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse environment
  • Ability to work proficiently and productively in a team environment to meet organizational goals.
  • Ability to recognize and handle confidential documents and information professionally.
  • Experience working with external vendors and systems.
