POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Hockey Coach is responsible for providing visionary leadership for the Hockey Program. The Assistant Hockey Coach is responsible for helping the Head Coach manage the day-to-day operations of the program, including recruiting within the school and development of individual team members. The Assistant Hockey Coach is required to abide by rules and regulations of; the NFHS, the MSHSL and Breck School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of athletes in Hockey.
  • Coordinate the development and promotion of the Hockey Program across the school community.
  • Work with other Hockey coaches together toward a common goal within the Hockey Program and provide unity across all levels and teams.
  • Help the Head Coach with decisions regarding performance criteria for competition and evaluate player's athletic abilities initially and on an ongoing basis.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
  • Use the allotted days by the MSHSL in June and July to provide athletes the opportunity to do Hockey specific training.
  • Encourage and support multisport athletes within Breck School.
  • Assist student athletes with college recruitment.
  • Act as a team representative and promote the sport within and outside the Breck community.
  • Participate in special activities to include parent meetings, senior night, banquets, etc.
  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach or other appropriate administrator.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Three years of experience coaching Hockey at the high school level.
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (MSHSL, etc.), opponents, staff, parents, and athletes.
