Role Purpose
A newly established Lead Profiling function is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to work closely with a gastrointestinal and inflammation-focused drug discovery group. This role centers on the development and execution of high-throughput, automated assays using advanced robotic systems, with the goal of supporting early drug discovery and translational research efforts.
The position is ideal for a scientist who thrives at the intersection of immunology, laboratory automation, and data-driven biology.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate mechanisms underlying B cell–mediated autoimmune conditions by integrating experimental immunology with automated and computational approaches
- Conduct large-scale, preclinical pharmacology studies that inform candidate selection and accelerate progression toward clinical development
- Design, optimize, and deploy cell-based assays on automated platforms to enable rapid, reproducible data generation
- Partner closely with discovery scientists, automation specialists, and external collaborators to manage workflows and datasets across multiple research programs
- Promote a collaborative research environment that values scientific rigor, innovation, transparency, and timely execution
Core Accountabilities
- Lead high-throughput, automation-enabled pharmacology studies that support advancement of discovery candidates into early clinical stages
- Develop and implement robust in vitro assays to evaluate immune cell behavior, signaling pathways, and compound activity
- Ensure high standards of data quality, documentation, and reproducibility through well-defined protocols and procedures
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including automation engineering, data science, and discovery biology to support evidence-based decision making
- Identify technical challenges early and implement creative, practical solutions to maintain research momentum
- Communicate study results and insights to multidisciplinary project teams and scientific stakeholders
Education & Experience
- PhD in Immunology or a related discipline with strong grounding in cell biology and quantitative or computational methods; or
- Master's degree with six or more years of relevant industry experience; or
- Bachelor's degree with eight or more years of applicable experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology research
Technical & Professional Skills
- Hands-on experience with integrated laboratory automation systems and miniaturized assay formats
- Strong background in immunology techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA-based methods, cell culture, luminescence assays, and multiplexed platforms
- Prior experience in autoimmune disease research and translational drug discovery is highly desirable
- Familiarity with large-scale data analysis, including the application of machine learning or AI-based tools to biological datasets
- Experience working in cloud-based computing environments and managing research data pipelines
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in team-oriented settings
Work Location
This role is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and follows a hybrid work model, combining on-site collaboration with flexible remote work in accordance with company policy.
Compensation
The anticipated U.S. base salary range for this position in the Boston, MA area is:
$111,800 – $175,670
Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, education, technical expertise, and market considerations.
