Job Summary – Activity Assistant (Memory Care)
Parkside Memory Care is seeking a compassionate, creative, and patient Activity Assistant to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will support our Life Enrichment and Engagement program designed specifically for residents living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

The Activity Assistant works closely with the Life Enrichment Director and care staff to deliver daily programs that stimulate cognitive function, encourage social interaction, and enhance each resident's overall quality of life in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and Facilitate Daily Engagement:
Assist in planning, organizing, and leading a variety of structured group and one-on-one activities tailored to residents' cognitive levels, interests, and life histories. Activities may include music therapy, art, reminiscence sessions, sensory stimulation, light exercise, and seasonal celebrations.
- Encourage Participation and Socialization:
Promote inclusion and engagement for all residents, providing gentle redirection and emotional support when needed to ensure every resident feels valued and included.
- Collaborate Across Departments:
Work closely with nursing, caregiving, and dining teams to coordinate daily schedules, special events, and interdisciplinary care plans—ensuring activities align with each resident's care needs and safety.
- Documentation and Tracking:
Record attendance and participation levels, noting resident mood, engagement, and any significant changes in behavior or ability for care plan updates.
- Resident Support and Safety:
Escort or assist residents to and from activity areas, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. Offer hands-on help during activities when appropriate.
- Family and Community Involvement:
Encourage families to participate in programs and events. Communicate updates about resident involvement and share special moments that highlight progress and engagement.
- Environmental Enhancement:
Help maintain clean, organized, and inviting activity areas that reflect the warmth and energy of Parkside's neighborhoods.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in assisted living, memory care, or long-term care is preferred.
- Familiarity with Alzheimer's and dementia care and an understanding of validation, redirection, and sensory engagement techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to connect with residents, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Creativity and flexibility to adapt activities for varying cognitive and physical abilities.
- Patience, empathy, and a sincere passion for improving the lives of seniors.
- Background in therapeutic recreation, social work, psychology, or gerontology is a plus but not required.
