Position Summary:

Novus is seeking an experienced Marine Advisor to provide technical and operational expertise in support of LNG marine operations, including vessel berthing, cargo loading, and terminal interface management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in LNG carrier operations, marine terminal management, and international maritime standards, with a strong commitment to safety, environmental protection, and operational integrity.

This role will support both ongoing operations and project development phases, ensuring that marine activities meet all applicable industry regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Marine Operations & Technical Support

  • Serve as the primary technical advisor for LNG marine operations, including ship/shore interface, cargo handling, and berthing/unberthing activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of marine procedures, including vessel acceptance, mooring plans, emergency response, and cargo transfer operations.
  • Liaise with LNG carriers, shipping companies, terminal operators, and port authorities to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations.
  • Provide marine assurance assessments, including compatibility studies and vetting of vessels and tugs.
  • Support development and maintenance of terminal marine operations manuals in accordance with industry best practices.

Project Development & Commissioning

  • Provide marine expertise during all phases of new LNG terminals and marine facilities.
  • Review and comment on marine facility layouts, jetty designs, mooring and berthing analyses, and navigation studies.
  • Participate in commissioning, pre-startup reviews, and operational readiness activities for new LNG terminals or expansions.
  • Support integration of marine systems with terminal control and safety systems.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all marine activities adhere to Novus 's safety and environmental standards, as well as international maritime regulations (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISGOTT).
  • Participate in risk assessments, HAZIDs, and HAZOPs related to marine and cargo operations.
  • Support audits and inspections of marine terminals and vessels to maintain compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide incident investigation support and lessons-learned analysis for marine-related events.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Act as the marine interface between key external stakeholders, including classification societies, regulators, and port authorities.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving LNG shipping regulations and best practices.
  • Provide training and mentorship to terminal and operations personnel on LNG marine operations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, Nautical Science, Naval Architecture, or related discipline (or equivalent seagoing experience).
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant marine experience, including LNG or liquid bulk operations at sea or shore-based terminals.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Deep understanding of LNG carrier operations, cargo systems, and ship/shore interface standards.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant IMO codes.
  • Experience conducting marine risk assessments, vessel vetting, and compatibility studies.
  • Familiarity with marine terminal design, berthing/mooring analysis, and tug operations.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Master Mariner or Chief Engineer (Unlimited) license, or equivalent professional credentials.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with ship owners, terminal staff, and regulators.
