Summary:
Gifthealth is a fast-growing digital pharmacy and hub services company dedicated to improving patient access and revolutionizing the patient experience across the healthcare journey. We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Director of Engineering to lead our technology teams and ensure the successful delivery of scalable, secure, and innovative healthcare solutions. This role will focus on overseeing engineering strategy, execution, and team leadership, while collaborating closely with product, operations, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in software engineering, infrastructure, and healthcare technology, with a proven track record of building and scaling engineering teams in regulated and innovation-driven environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Leadership & Strategy:
    • Define and drive the overall engineering vision, aligning with company objectives, and product roadmap.
    • Ensure scalability, performance, and security of Gifthealth's platform and supporting systems.
    • Develop and implement best practices in software development, architecture, and engineering operations.
    • Manage engineering budgets, resource planning, vendor relationships, and technology investments.
  • Team Management & Culture:
    • Manage, mentor, and grow engineering managers and individual contributors.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, speed, and continuous improvement.
    • Recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent to meet the company's growth and engineering needs.
  • Execution & Delivery:
    • Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery of software solutions across multiple teams.
    • Ensure engineering output is delivered on time, within scope, and high quality.
    • Implement consistent methodologies and practices to improve velocity, efficiency, and quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with Product to align engineering execution with business goals and customer needs while driving innovative solutions for our platform.
    • Work with Operations, Data, and Customer Success teams to integrate engineering solutions into workflows and improve patient experience.
    • Collaborate with Compliance and Security teams to ensure regulatory and data privacy standards are upheld.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and industry trends relevant to healthcare and digital platforms.
    • Drive initiatives for automation, system monitoring, and quality assurance.
    • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and operational excellence.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in leadership roles.
  • Proven success leading engineering organizations in high-growth, technology-driven, and customer-centric environments.
  • Strong expertise in software architecture, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and modern development frameworks (Ruby on Rails).
  • Experience with agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and healthcare IT requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on technical leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare technology, digital health platforms, or pharmacy systems.
  • Background in data engineering, analytics, or AI/ML applications in healthcare.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks, compliance audits, and risk management.
