Job summary: Carving new animals, menagerie, and chariots for carousels
Primary responsibility:
- Design, develop, and carve a variety of new carousel animals, menagerie, and chariots
- Setting up and operating a variety of woodworking machines to fabricate, repair, reinforce, and replace carousel animals and/or components.
- Restoring and preserving historical or contemporary carousel animals and facades, using a variety of hand tools and power tools. Work includes but is not limited to filling, carving, sanding, replacing wood components, etc.Removing damaged or deteriorated parts, conserving as much of the original component as possible.
- Cutting, shaping, carving, and attaching parts according to patterns or original components.
- Documenting work process before, during, and after work is completed.
- Traveling to a variety of locations to perform work onsite a bonus, but not required.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Experience in woodcarving
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to travel
- Great attention to detail
- Patience and a methodical approach to work
- Ability to work within deadlines given
- Creative problem solving skills
- Perseverance, commitment, and a genuine enthusiasm for the work
- Previous experience in woodworking or carving is preferred, but not required
- Previous experience with power tools is preferred, but not required
Tool Requirements:
- Chisels and basic woodworking tools.
