POSITION SUMMARY

The Equipment Transportation Truck Driver is responsible for transporting mobile equipment by driving diesel-powered tractor-trailer combinations. This equipment includes but it not limited to forklifts, man lifts and aerial lifts. The Truck Driver is responsible for delivering and picking up equipment as well as loading, unloading, and securing cargo on a trailer. This position reports directly to the Trucking Manger. The candidate will work closely with Shop and Road Technicians to facilitate the loading and unloading damaged and inoperable equipment as well as assisting with on-site battery replacement in customers' machines. Additionally, this position is customer facing and interacts with customers both onsite and via phone. This position is based out of a W.D. Matthews location but is primarily on the road. This is a local driving position. This position requires a valid Class A CDL Driver License with experience driving a tractor-trailer as well as loading and securing cargo or equipment with chains and straps. Candidates must be over the age of 21 as the position entails operating a company owned vehicle between states. This candidate must have five years of prior tractor trailer driving experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Hook and unhook trailers from the tractor, cranking lever to raise and lower landing gear on semi-trailers
  • Load and unload trailer, either individually or with assistance from other drivers or mechanics as required
  • Secure all shipments by tying or bracing cargo within trailer, as required
  • Check, inspect and fuel equipment for job-to-job pickup and delivery
  • Ensure that all shipment documentation (e.g. manifest, bills of lading, shipping orders, or freight bills, etc.) required to move with shipments is available for inspection and that appropriate paperwork accompanies shipment when delivered
  • Maintain records required for compliance for state and federal regulations including drivers' logs, records of fuel purchases, mileage records and other records required by law
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
  • Must have five years previous tractor-trailer driving experience
  • Must have the ability to read, write and perform simple mathematical calculations with general ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, and maintain logs, etc.
  • Must have good oral communication skills
  • Must be able to follow instructions and take directions in person or by phone
  • Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems
  • Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance
  • Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the U. S. Dept. of Transportation
  • Must satisfactorily pass a drug test
  • Must satisfactorily pass an alcohol test (if applicable)
  • Must be able to perform pre and post-trip inspections as well as basic vehicle maintenance (replacing wiper blades, checking and adding all vehicle fluids)

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical degree or certificate preferred
