Job Description:

The Director, Data Science will drive Net Operating Income (NOI) growth by designing and implementing data-driven strategies across Ventas's Senior Housing portfolio (700+ properties, $1B+ in NOI).

This leader's primary objective is to map, prioritize, and recommend opportunities for investment and disposition across new and existing properties. For existing assets, the Director will identify and execute strategies to improve sales performance, operational efficiency, and overall portfolio health. Success will be measured by the measurable NOI impact achieved through data science insights and execution.

The role will partner closely with internal Ventas teams, including IT, Asset Management, Acquisitions, and Financial Planning & Analysis, as well as our best-in-class operating partners who manage day-to-day community performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Data Science team supporting the Senior Housing and Investments functions at Ventas.
  • Advance the Ventas OI data and insights platform, integrating proprietary and external data sources to inform investment and operational decisions.
  • Develop and execute data science strategies aligned with business objectives, driving measurable improvements in NOI, efficiency, and decision quality.
  • Oversee the end-to-end data science lifecycle, including problem framing, model development, deployment, and performance monitoring.
  • Partner with IT to manage the ingestion, cleaning, organization, and standardization of data from 40+ operating managers, ensuring accuracy and consistency across diverse systems and data formats.
  • Design and optimize reporting, dashboards, and analytical tools to enhance operational transparency, efficiency, and automation.
  • Build and deploy machine learning models to streamline data processing, reporting, and predictive analytics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights in areas such as predictive analytics, competitive intelligence, geospatial analysis, marketing and sales performance, and expense optimization.
  • Translate complex business challenges into technical solutions and analytical frameworks.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with healthcare REIT standards.
  • Champion best practices in data science, machine learning, and model governance.
  • Communicate analytical findings clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Provide hands-on management and mentorship to two Data Science Analysts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Analytics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in Data Science, Advanced Analytics, Management Consulting, or related industries. Experience in real estate or healthcare is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, data engineering pipelines, and data governance frameworks.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical problem-solving skills; able to define data needs, extract insights, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex issues and facilitate decision-making.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities.
  • Intellectually curious and innovative; applies learning from prior experience to generate new ideas and approaches.
  • Demonstrated bias for action and results orientation; proven ability to execute cross-functional initiatives that drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Familiarity with P&L management, and a passion for hospitality and senior housing preferred.
  • Experience with dashboard and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
