Overview
We are seeking a veterinarian interested in making a huge difference in animal welfare and pet overpopulation in East Tennessee. Our clinic is a High Quality, High Volume, Spay/Neuter Clinic located on Hwy 321 between Lenoir City and Maryville, TN. The ideal candidate will have the ability to complete up to 30 spay/neuter surgeries of mixed gender and species in a 4 hour period, however, mentoring is available to help the right candidate achieve the desired efficiency. Starting pay will be based on surgical experience and efficiency.
Our clinic offers low cost spay/neuter and wellness to owned animals, unowned community cats, and rescue and shelter pets. Additional care beyond spay/neuter is offered to rescue and shelter pets and on a case by case basis for owned pets, so you will not miss full service cases. Our support staff is highly skilled and efficient in anesthesia induction, surgical prep, monitoring, and recovery. This job has a great work-life balance and is ideal for those looking for a lower stress career.
We are seeking a candidate able to work three days per week (flexible days from Tuesday to Friday) from 8:45 am to 4:00 pm. There are no weekend or after hours in-clinic responsibilities, however, we rotate responsibility (6+ week rotation) to screen after hours post surgical concerns. This is only to advise on how to manage complications and refer to emergency if needed.
Responsibilities
- Performing pre-operative exams for all surgical patients, making sure there are no obvious risks for anesthesia and addressing those when they arise as well as any additional procedures that could be offered while pet is present for spay/neuter (i.e. hernias, dew-claws, retained teeth)
- Perform routine and advanced surgical procedures, including spay/neuter surgeries (including abortive spays), dental cleanings and extractions, minor wound repairs, and other soft tissue surgeries, as needed.
- Provide comprehensive medical exams, assessments, diagnostics, and treatments for dogs and cats in our care from our partner rescues and shelters
- Obtain/maintain USDA APHIS accreditation to issue CVIs
- Supervise vaccine clinics and perform physical exams as needed
- Perform periodic rounds after surgery to monitor patients' recovery
- Collaborate with veterinary and animal care staff on treatment plans.
- Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and up-to-date in accordance with clinic protocols.
- Apply best practices in shelter medicine to manage population health and prevent disease outbreaks.
- Work closely with Animal Care teams to ensure biosecurity, sanitation, and disease monitoring protocols are followed.
- Perform euthanasias
- Support the education of staff and volunteers through training sessions, workshops, and mentorship.
- Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and treatment protocols.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of medical supplies and medications.
- Ensuring compliance with all organizational and medical protocols.
- Create a culture of service and excellence so that employees, clients, volunteers and the animals are treated with respect and dignity
- Remain current on trends, ideas, and new developments in the field
- Provides oversight and leadership to the veterinary staff
- Participate in the hiring of veterinary staff
- Works with Managers to conduct performance evaluations, motivate and evaluate personnel
- Collaboration and communication with all other DVMs employed at PPAW to assure continuity of care and to quickly alert other Drs. of any issues
- Collaborates with other departments to achieve organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Ideal candidates should have at least 2 years of experience as a veterinarian.
- Valid TN veterinary license.
- DEA license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe if needed.
- Shelter medicine and/or spay/neuter experience preferred.
- Able to perform soft tissue surgeries including but not limited to spays and neuters of dogs and cats.
- Graduate with a DVM or VMD from a US accredited veterinary school.
- USDA APHIS accredited for CVI issuance
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrates compassion, empathy, and flexibility.
Job Type: Part-time
Base Pay: $ $96.00 per hour
Expected hours: 21 per week
