Mission

New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School is an open-admission public charter school that prepares all students for college admissions and successful careers. Sci High provides a rigorous high school curriculum with an emphasis in science and mathematics in a supportive environment of learning and respect that prepares students to make informed choices about post-secondary pursuits.

Sci High is seeking an experienced and dedicated Carpentry Teacher Assistant.

In this role, you will support the lead instructor in delivering high quality carpentry training to students, ensuring a hands-on, engaging learning environment that fosters skill development, craftsmanship, and safety.

Responsibilities:

· Assist the lead instructor in delivering carpentry lessons in both theoretical and practical formats.

· Support students in hands-on projects, providing guidance on techniques and safety practices.

· Prepare instructional materials and set up equipment and tools for classes.

· Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback on their work.

· Maintain a safe and organized workshop environment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

· Assist with curriculum development and the implementation of new teaching strategies.

· Coordinate with Exceptional Children's Services to provide appropriate accommodations to students with exceptionalities.

· Build positive rapport with students.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate would have the following experiences and qualifications:

Education/Certification:

● High school diploma or GED certificate

● Appropriate industry-recognized instructor certification (i.e. National Center for Construction Education and Research or other certification)

● Completion of the OSHA Outreach Training Program preferred

Required:

  • Previous teaching experience in a high school setting or similar environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage students in a hands-on learning environment
  • Demonstrated experience in carpentry, with a strong understanding of tools, materials, and techniques

Preferred:

  • Certification in carpentry or related fields
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Knowledge of modern carpentry practices and sustainable building techniques

Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies

  • Proficiency in using various carpentry tools and machinery
  • Understanding of building codes and safety standards
  • Familiarity with CAD software or other design tools is a plus
