Purpose of Classification

The purpose of this classification is to receive and process all merchandise ordered by the warehouse and other City departments. Employees in this classification deliver goods to City departments, control inventory in the warehouse; and assist customers at the counter.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Follows-up with vendors on open stock orders; contacts vendors about errors in shipping and/or pricing. .

Receives merchandise; puts stock away; pulls orders for delivery and pick-up; writes credits for stock merchandise.

Operates forklift to load and unload trucks.

Pulls orders at counter for customers. Makes morning and afternoon mail runs; records incoming certified mail; delivers mail to City Clerk's office for distribution; prepares outgoing mail and packages. Maintains inventory and records storage to ensure proper order and placement in warehouse.

Performs minor maintenance on delivery vehicle such as cleaning the vehicle and checking tire pressure; ensures preventive maintenance is performed on schedule.

Answers the telephone and takes messages.

Maintains cleanliness of warehouse.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months previous experience and/or training involving warehouse operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. Must receive forklift training within one month of employment and demonstrate proficiency prior to independently operating a forklift; must maintain proficiency in operating a forklift.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, traffic hazards, toxic agents, or pathogenic substances.
