The Head of Alternative Investments Oversight will oversee Martello Re asset managers' activity across all alternative investments, including funds, direct equity & co-investment positions, strategic equities and other investments. This will include liaising with the rest of the Martello Re investment team to understand the investment portfolio needs for Alternatives and then interfacing with external asset managers to ensure the strategies are meeting Martello Re's needs. The Head of Alternative Investment Oversight will implement a full cycle of oversight of each asset manager in the alternatives space, including onboarding, mandate & portfolio design, individual deal review, benchmarking and evaluation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee asset managers' alternative investment activities, including private equity, direct equities, co-investments, and strategic/other equity/alternative investments
- Liaise with the investment team and asset managers to set investment strategy, mandates, and guidelines
- Oversee and review individual alternative investments for suitability, compliance and performance
- Establish benchmarks and evaluate asset manager performance against these standards
- Monitor alternative investment markets and identify emerging risks and opportunities
- Lead the onboarding process for new asset managers, ensuring thorough due diligence
- Conduct ongoing due diligence and performance monitoring of existing managers and investments
- Oversee portfolio construction to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and risk parameters
- Manage problem assets by coordinating with asset managers and providing briefings to senior management on resolution strategies and outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education And Experience
- Advanced degree in finance, economics, business, mathematics, or a related field. CFA or CAIA professional designation preferred.
- 7+ years of relevant experience working in private equity and/or alternative investments, preferably within insurance, reinsurance, or asset management environments.
- Experience working in direct equity / co-investments is a plus.
- Experience managing alternative asset portfolios.
- Familiarity with private equity investing and related concepts.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises analysts and responsible for team development and performance management. Mentor and develop junior team members, supporting career path planning and professional growth.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
