The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in the Medical Affairs organization is a hybrid position focusing primarily on the Americas Market West Specialty Eye Care.

The MSL identifies market needs in Optometry and Ophthalmology to drive the clinical concept of Healthcare from the Eye, which leverages ocular data and advanced analytics to improve the clinical outcomes of patients battling ophthalmic and systemic diseases.

This role also supports the development of new clinical applications and educational materials related to the Topcon Healthcare product portfolio for Ophthalmology and Oculomics. The MSL works closely with clinicians and researchers to ensure that company products and technology prototypes get visibility in the market through scientific presentations and publications. This position also takes ownership of executing Topcon Healthcare's medical education and training programs for internal and external stakeholders.

The candidate must be located on the West Coast near a major airport.

Responsibilities:

Supporting Medical Affairs Activities

  • Responsible for supporting new products and applications in the market
  • Works with marketing to develop material that uses clinical data to substantiate the clinical benefits and unique selling points of products
  • Informs medical professionals and business partners about the latest company developments and supports training and sales activities
  • Identifies market needs and supports the development of new clinical applications by working closely with clinicians and researchers
  • Works with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to ensure company products get visibility in the market through scientific presentations and publications
  • Serves as the link between external experts and internal product management or other stakeholders
  • Manages investigator initiated trials (IITs)
  • Manages scientific symposia, clinical advisory boards, and customer focus groups
  • Communicates at the same level with leading scientists and clinicians in the clinical and scientific fields of interest
  • Represents the company at scientific conferences

Supporting Education and Training

  • Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across Topcon Healthcare, including other colleagues in the Medical Affairs organization as well as SMEs from internal groups such as Clinical Science, Clinical Affairs & Operations, Product Management, Customer Support, and Marketing among others in the development of training programs and learning materials
  • Engages with subsidiary managers to establish the training needs of each market, and customize courses and materials where required
  • Works with the Global Education and Training Team and Marketing to design and develop instructional material for end user training courses that support company products, branding, and initiatives
  • Works with KOLs to create end user educational assets detailing the clinical use and relevance of company products
  • Contribute to train-the-trainer sessions for SMEs and regional trainers
  • Works with the Global Training Team to design and deliver instructor-led courses for direct employees and distributors. Topics cover Topcon's product portfolio and include sales and clinical applications
  • Participates in Global Education and Training Team meetings, presenting and sharing knowledge and ideas
  • Contributes to the delivery of end user training at certain Topcon events, predominantly in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
  • Performs other related duties as required

Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • An advanced clinical or scientific degree; MD, OD, MSc or PhD preferred
  • 3+ years of industry experience in life sciences, pharma, or tech is preferred
  • Experience in the field of healthcare; experience with Ophthalmic imaging is a plus
  • Experience with research design and implementation is a plus

Base Pay

Expected Base Pay Range: $155,000 to $190,000 Annualized

The base pay range included is a projected hiring range for a position, level and potential work location(s) listed. Topcon provides the compensation range that it in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position. This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule.

Bonus eligible:

In addition to base pay, compensation for this position includes eligibility for a 10% annual bonus.

  • Topcon time off policies vary between roles which are exempt or non-exempt. For hourly ("non-exempt") employees, we offer personal paid time off which accrues in accordance with local standards. For salaried ("exempt") employees, we offer a flexible paid time off policy giving you flexibility to take time when needed, while supporting business needs. All paid time off policies are in accordance with or exceeding local law. Employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for our Health and Welfare benefit package.
