Job Family Description
Emergency Services personnel safeguard individuals, property, and assets against potential emergencies. They assess emergency risks, develop continuity of operations (COOP) plans, implement trainings, drills, facility qualifications, and establish preventative measures. They ensure compliance with emergency preparedness/response procedures and requirements.
Discipline Description
Emergency preparedness roles focus on developing, implementing, and coordinating plans and strategies to effectively respond to and mitigate various emergencies and disasters. Emergency preparedness professionals develop and maintain emergency plans and procedures, assess risks and vulnerabilities, identify response strategies, and manage drills.
Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Knowledge of DOE O. 151.1D, "Comprehensive Emergency Management System," which outlines the requirements for planning, preparedness, and response to emergencies arising from Department of Energy (DOE) operations.
- Monitor the completion of corrective actions within the Site Tracking, Analysis, & Reporting (STAR) system.
- Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO).
- Serve on the Infectious Disease Response Team.
- Review and update Emergency Management (EM) Job Task Analyses (JTAs).
- Participate in drills and exercises.
- Conduct facility walkdowns to observe the use and storage of hazardous materials
- Prepare, review, and maintain Technical Basis Hazard documentation in compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) orders, guidance, and directives.
- Conceptualize, develop, and maintain hazard specific products in support of the Emergency Management Program.
- Identify, coordinate, and execute hazard-focused initiatives to enhance SRS's capabilities in mitigating, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from hazards.
- Maintain general awareness of trends/data, special activities, or circumstances that may indicate an increased threat level of hazard occurrence at SRS and surrounding communities.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in support of the emergency management program.
- Participate with specialized teams, working groups, and organizations as assigned.
- Complete actions items associated with contractor assurance standards as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
- Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physical Science, Geographic Information Systems, or equivalent.
- Experience in risk, hazard, and threat analysis.
- Experience analyzing hazardous materials (radiological, chemical, biological)

- Experience with spatial analysis, GIS, data visualization, and hazard modeling software (ALOHA, HotSpot, EPICode, etc.) is a plus.

Security Clearance Information
SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
