The Host at KYU plays a key role in creating a welcoming, organized, and efficient front-of-house experience. This position is responsible for guest reception, managing reservations and seating flow, and supporting overall restaurant operations to ensure a seamless and elevated guest experience.

Hosts at KYU serve as the first point of contact for guests and are essential to maintaining the restaurant's service standards, pace, and hospitality culture.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome guests with a warm, professional demeanor
  • Manage the reservation and waitlist system, including special requests and accommodations
  • Coordinate seating arrangements to ensure smooth guest flow and optimal table turnover
  • Provide accurate wait time estimates and communicate clearly with guests
  • Maintain a clean, organized host stand and waiting area
  • Collaborate with the service team to ensure timely seating and smooth service
  • Handle guest inquiries and concerns professionally and resolve issues promptly
  • Assist with guest check-in and check-out processes as needed
  • Support the front-of-house team with tasks such as running food, refilling beverages, or bussing tables when necessary
  • Uphold KYU's service standards and values at all times
  • Monitor guest flow during peak periods to minimize wait times
  • Maintain working knowledge of menus, specials, and restaurant policies
  • Assist in training new hosts on procedures and best practices

Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in a guest-facing role, preferably as a Host or similar hospitality position
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional demeanor with a positive, service-oriented attitude
  • Experience with reservation and waitlist systems preferred
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
