Job Description
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for performing duties related to the installation, alteration, repair, replacement and maintenance of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment and run small jobs. This position requires strict daily and weekly project deadlines. This position either requires the electrician to perform tasks either independently or as a team under limited supervision. Occasionally oversee work performed by others. Reports to Foreman, or Superintendent as assigned. Only CESG qualified and authorized electricians, accordance with the NFPA 70-E, may work on or near any energized circuits or equipment, including working within the limited approach boundary.
Job Functions:
Demonstrates safe working procedures and reports unsafe working conditions and practices
Ensures property for which he/she has been assigned (tools, materials, equipment, etc.) is secure.
Must have readily available CESG minimum tool list.
Wears personal protective equipment when required (such as hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, work boots, respirator, hearing protection, fall protection, cut resistant gloves, etc.).
Maintains tools, equipment, supplies and work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
Maintains good housekeeping, which may include, but not limited to sweeping work area using a broom, organizing tools and materials, washing or wiping tools or surfaces clean and keeping area free of debris and tripping hazards.
Transports tools and materials. This may include walking and carrying objects up to 50 pounds from one location to another, sometimes upstairs, over gravel, pushing or pulling equipment with or without the assistance of co-worker(s).
Bends, stoops, and must regain balance upon standing when installing electrical boxes, pipes, etc. that frequently span from floor to ceiling level.
Performs lifting, positioning, holding, fastening, drilling, or hammering objects, such as conduit, motors, fixtures, poles, and other objects for installation or removal.
Pulls wire of all gauges, with or without the assistance of others.
Uses one and two-handed manual, electrical and battery-operated hand tools, such as screwdriver, hammer, saw, wrench, pliers, drill, conduit benders, knockout cutters, wire cutters, wire strippers, wire pullers, etc. Additional Essential Functions.
Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit.
Makes custom bends and cuts to ensure proper placement of conduit.
Supervises and explains tasks to up to two (2) workers.
Adheres to and/or completes pre-task planning.
Organizes, prioritizes, plans, and lays out work and/or aspects of work for self and crew.
Communicates with coworkers daily by telephone and in person.
Follows federal, state, and local electrical and building codes when planning and conducting work Functions Performed Often, or As Needed.
knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Communication skills to interpret construction and safety signage, to acknowledge and alert others of safety hazards, and to take and/or give verbal and written instructions.
Able to comprehend blueprints, navigate project drawing, and interpret terminology and symbols.
Has a working knowledge of and the ability to refer to current National Electrical Code
Run small jobs
Travel to new job sites as business operations require.
Work required schedule (may be required to work nights and weekends to meet construction deadlines or handle emergencies).
Understand and perform basic math functions and tape measurement.
Identify and use electrical hand tools and basic power tools properly.
Work in all elements (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) daily.
Work in restricted areas, often in cramped places that require getting into awkward positions (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, etc.).
Perform work at heights from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, roofs, or other areas occasionally or as job requires.
Perform work from all types of ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders and all sizes of extension ladders) and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladder by oneself; for this reason, employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1-250 lbs., Class 1A-300 lbs.).
Must be able to use construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns), if needed.
Make transition from employee parking area into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of building, even if the only means is by OSHA approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable to use.
Education, Experience, and/or Prerequisites Required
Should have more than four (4) years of previous electrical experience (industrial/commercial).
Electrical licensure is preferred for this position.
Must possess appropriate state driver's license if designated as a "driver" in accordance with CESG Operation of Company Vehicles program.
Must maintain CESG minimum tool list.
Must be able to arrive and depart to and from the jobsites (mode of transportation).
Must meet minimum job specific standard (JST) that replicate the essential functions of this position.
Pass all criminal record and drug testing requirements of the job.
High School education, High School graduate, or GED or Vocational Background preferred.
Complete on-the-job training, as required.
Must have the ability to read and write (English) to effectively communicate.
