Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team responsible for all accounting, tax, and federal, state and local tax C corporation tax compliance matters related to blockchain technologies and digital assets within a national practice.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on digital assets, including but not limited to coins, tokens, DeFi protocols, smart contracts, NFTs, and emerging blockchain technologies.
  • Work with Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide comprehensive tax solutions (compliance and advisory) to clients regarding the implications and financial statement impacts of blockchain transactions, token launches, staking, mining, lending, yield farming, and other crypto-related activities.
  • State and international tax knowledge is preferred but not required.
  • Oversee and assist with the preparation and review of ASC 740 federal, state, and foreign tax provision calculations, documentation, and footnote disclosures with a focus on corporate entities and corporate structures.
  • Assist clients with development and implementation of robust internal controls policies and procedures for digital assets and other corporate transactions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Aprio tax specialists (state and local taxes, R&D, Section 174, transfer pricing, valuation, etc.).
  • Assist in collaborating with Aprio managed services in evaluation, selection, implementation, and integration of digital assets outsource accounting solutions for various digital asset clients.
  • Foster a culture of continuous education, teamwork, and innovation by training, mentoring, and supporting junior staff within the rapidly evolving blockchain and digital assets space.
  • Engage with external auditors, tax authorities, and other stakeholders to facilitate audits, resolve technical issues, and represent the organization in complex tax and compliance discussions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or tax experience, with at least 2-3 years concentrated on ASC-740 tax accounting and compliance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in blockchain and cryptocurrency, including practical exposure to wallet management, DeFi, on-chain analytics, and related technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and global tax implications for digital assets.
  • Experience with crypto financial reporting, crypto tax compliance, and understanding of the unique challenges posed by digital asset valuation and custodianship.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with data analytics tools, blockchain explorers, and crypto tax software.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex blockchain and tax matters to non-experts.
  • Proven leadership abilities; experience managing teams, prioritizing workloads, and driving projects to completion in a deadline-driven environment.
  • High integrity, discretion, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.

The salary range for this opportunity is stated above. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range.
