Director PMO Quality Compliance
CREATIVITY IS OUR SUPERPOWER.
It's our heritage and it's also our future. Because we don't just make toys. We create innovative products and experiences that inspire fans, entertain audiences and develop children through play. Mattel is at its best when every member of our team feels respected, included, and heard—when everyone can show up as themselves and do their best work every day. We value and share an infinite range of ideas and voices that evolve and broaden our perspectives with a reach that extends into all our brands, partners, and suppliers.
The Team:
The Global Quality, Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Governance & Risk, Consumer Services, and Sustainability & Social Impact (GQSRCSSI) team is committed to ensuring that we design and manufacture safe and sustainable products. We do this with unwavering integrity, unbridled passion, and laser-like focus to earn grown-ups' trust and put smiles on kids' faces worldwide.
Reporting to the SVP, this role will work with SMEs across the GQSRCSSI team (e.g., regulatory reporting, climate, circularity, human rights, data analytics, compliance, etc.) and other cross-functional groups like legal, government affairs, financial reporting, audit, and more to track and report progress and support the implementation of company-wide, integrated GQSRCSSI programs.
The Opportunity:
Mattel is seeking a Director to lead our Project Management Office while serving as a strategic advisor and chief of staff to functional executive leadership. This role combines enterprise PMO leadership with strategic business planning and operational excellence in a fast-paced consumer goods environment. The Director will join the GQSRCSSI team to ensure strategic efforts supporting transformational projects and initiatives are operationalized and embedded into organizational decision-making and supporting strategic end-to-end change management. In addition to supporting quality and regulatory compliance, this role will help foster sustainability adoption across Mattel through excellence in project management and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Governance and Leadership Support establishing and ongoing management of clear structures and models (such as leadership councils, steering committees, and working groups) with defined roles and responsibilities related to sustainability oversight and operationalization.
- Strategy and Alignment Coordinate activities across teams and identify opportunities to integrate sustainability and social impact-related impacts, risks, and opportunities into decision-making, similar to financial or strategic considerations. Ensure projects are aligned with the company's strategic goals and support Mattel's performance across several sustainability indicators.
- Operations and Processes Oversee a holistic work plan, manage risks and dependencies, and adopt project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) to include sustainability practices (e.g., incorporating at each stage gate). Identify and incorporate key elements of successful program management such as RACI matrices, change management models, implementation task timelines, etc. Establish an intake process for new rules and regulations that present modifications to the current regulatory landscape, analyze the impact of those changes, and establish the appropriate project setup to incorporate those changes into the future environment, in partnership with government affairs, legal, finance, and regulatory compliance colleagues.
- Resource Allocation Support allocating resources to projects with the most significant positive impact on goals and better business outcomes. Support ongoing business case development and projection updates.
- Measurement and Continuous Review Track and report regularly on project contributions using specific metrics and KPIs, and update strategies and projects regularly to maintain alignment with organizational goals and respond to new sustainability challenges/requirements.
- Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Prepare high-quality materials for project status updates, committee meetings, and other forums. Build and maintain excellent relationships with the key stakeholders, representing a credible point of contact for each project team. Identify efficiencies and remove redundancies in stakeholder engagement to prevent oversaturation across multiple touchpoints.
- Training, Innovation, and Technologies Evaluate and identify project management tools to support the team, conduct training, and challenge ways of working to support innovation and excellence in execution.
What Your Impact Will Be
- Champion enterprise-wide strategic initiatives by leading a high-performing global Project Management Office (PMO)
- Enable executive decision-making through transparent, data-driven portfolio management and capital planning
- Serve as a trusted advisor and chief of staff, driving alignment between strategic vision and operational execution
- Streamline complex cross-functional initiatives, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery of high-impact projects
- Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across the organization through process optimization and change leadership
- Cultivate a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration while mentoring the next generation of project leaders
- Build and scale organizational project management capabilities to support growth and transformation in a fast-paced consumer goods environment
- Influence at all levels to remove roadblocks and accelerate business outcomes
