Job DescriptionJoin AECOM's Highway / Transportation Design Team in Roanoke, VA as a Civil Engineer - Transportation Design role. In this role the appropriate qualified person will work on a variety of challenging and interesting projects. Projects range from roadway and drainage design, highway and bridge projects, traffic engineering analysis, and transportation planning studies.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Develop design criteria, roadway geometry, traffic control, and signing and pavement markings, drainage systems, stormwater management.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects.
- Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support project designs and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures.
- Conduct site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing conditions.
- Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations.
- Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client's scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making.
- Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers

- Applies broad knowledge of at least one professional discipline or advanced knowledge of specific technical and operational practices.
- Obtains technical certificates and licenses, where applicable Performs a self-check of work products prior to submitting to others.
- Performs technical quality reviews including documentation in project record in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Assists with proposals to provide services or obtain funding for projects or programs.
- Begins to interact directly with client to gather information and discuss project requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering degree plus four (4) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification
- Demonstrated experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or similar design highway or transportation design applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Design experience with VDOT projects
- Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, and Traffic projects
- Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
- Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams
- Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire
- Degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET
- Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
- Relocation support is not available for this role
