About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, this role will provide the technical expertise necessary to achieve fully functional and de-risked feasibility prototypes ready for the development of advanced wireless sensing systems for Urology. You will independently execute assigned Research activities, including concept innovation, algorithm development, feasibility prototyping, and Clinical Data Analysis, while mentoring junior members of the team.

This is a local role, working 5 days per week
in-person at our Irvine, CA office

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clinical data analysis using signal processing, algorithm development, and ML methodologies using Python
  • ML algorithm development, including signal processing, feature engineering, and model development
  • Contribute to proof of concept and feasibility prototype testing
  • Build and test hardware prototypes and experimental test fixtures mechanically and electrically, including soldering
  • Maintain and develop an internal Python code base using Git version control
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers on the R&D team

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
  • Knowledge of rigorous experimental design
  • Expert-level programming skills in Python –
    this is non-negotiable
  • Strong background in biomedical sensor technologies and ability to analyze physiological data streams using Python
  • Coding experience that isn't based on AI prompts. AI may be used, but the role requires the ability to hand-code and use AI effectively as support rather than generation
  • Experience with electronic test tools (e.g. DMMs, Oscilloscopes)
  • 3-5 years of medical device industry work experience in medical device feasibility prototyping and development; this may
    not
    be substituted for time in education/intern/postdoc environments
  • The ability to question the fundamental physics behind a given technology and explain system behaviors
  • The ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to contribute technically to and work within cross-functional team environments
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and documentation skills, with a high level of attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • High personal/professional integrity, trustworthiness, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
  • In-depth understanding of rapid prototyping methods for hardware (EE) and software (FW), including the usage and modification of development kits to achieve experimental goals: Altium Designer, SolidWorks, and Python
  • Familiarity with the medical device design process, including FDA phases and documentation processes, user needs documentation, etc. You don't need to be an expert, but exposure to this process is extremely helpful
  • White paper, journal publication, and grant writing experience
  • Prior startup or early-stage company experience

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs, occasionally up and down stairs
  • Must be able to work extended amounts of time standing or sitting, based on projects and priorities
