Our GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) classroom serves four-year-old children in Michigan, helping them build foundational skills in literacy, math, social-emotional learning, and more in preparation for kindergarten.

What Is GSRP?

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan's state-funded preschool program for eligible four-year-olds. It emphasizes developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning and social-emotional growth to help children enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Michigan+2Michigan+2

Position Summary

The GSRP Assistant Teacher will support the Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction in the GSRP classroom. This role involves supervising children, assisting in lesson planning, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment, and helping with assessment and documentation in accordance with GSRP guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning, preparing, and implementing daily lesson plans aligned with approved curriculum and GSRP requirements.
  • Provide direct supervision to children in the classroom and during outdoor/play times. K12 Job Spot
  • Help manage daily routines (arrival, transitions, meals/snacks, rest time, clean up) to foster a predictable and secure environment.
  • Support positive behavior guidance, using developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Build and maintain warm, responsive relationships with children, families, and team members.
  • Assist with ongoing assessments of children's development and maintain required documentation.
  • Support the Lead Teacher in home visits or family engagement activities, as required. armada-
  • Comply with GSRP standards and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures, including licensing, safety, and health guidelines. mc-
  • Participate in professional development, training, and staff meetings.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Substitute for the Lead Teacher when necessary, stepping into leadership when needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or associate degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.
  • Previous experience working with preschool-age children (preferred but not always required).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based classroom.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry children, sit on the floor, and engage in active play.

Preferred:

  • CPR and First Aid certification. K12 Job Spot+1
  • Prior experience in a GSRP or early childhood education program.
  • Familiarity with Michigan's Early Childhood Standards of Quality and GSRP program requirements. Michigan
  • Understanding of or experience with developmentally appropriate curriculum (e.g., HighScope, Creative Curriculum, etc.).
  • Cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse families.
