Position Overview
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Public Affairs and Advocacy to lead and execute strategic initiatives that advance the organization's mission of advocating for pro-business policies and fostering economic growth. This position requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in media relations, public affairs, stakeholder recruitment and activation, writing, and issue campaign management. The senior director will play a pivotal role in communicating with policymakers, engaging key stakeholders, and driving impactful campaigns that support the Chamber's priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Media Relations: Develop and implement comprehensive media strategies to amplify the Chamber's voice on critical business issues. Cultivate relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets to ensure accurate and favorable coverage of the Chamber's initiatives.
  • Public Affairs Strategy: Design and execute public affairs campaigns that align with the Chamber's policy objectives. Leverage innovative approaches to engage policymakers, business leaders, and key stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Recruitment and Activation: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, industry associations, and other organizations. Mobilize stakeholders to support the Chamber's advocacy efforts and participate in issue campaigns.
  • Writing and Content Development: Craft compelling content, including op-eds, press releases, and campaign materials, to effectively communicate the Chamber's positions and initiatives. Ensure that messaging is clear, consistent, and impactful.
  • Issue Campaign Management: Lead the planning and execution of issue-based campaigns, coordinating cross-functional teams to achieve campaign goals. Monitor and analyze campaign performance.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with internal teams, including communications, government affairs, and policy experts, to align public affairs efforts with organizational priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public affairs, political science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of proven experience in media relations, public affairs, and issue campaign management, preferably within an agency, government, or major policy-focused organization.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder recruitment and activation, with a track record of building and mobilizing coalitions.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and impactful content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with an understanding of public policy, business issues, and the legislative process.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.

The salary range for this position is $143,614.00 to $160, The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant's qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Our full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including health care, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.
