Overview

In the dynamic landscape of the Engineering Services Department operations and regulatory compliance, the Lead Construction Inspector stands as a cornerstone in ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. With a keen eye for detail and a profound understanding of construction-specific regulations and standards, the Lead Construction Inspector orchestrates inspection activities with precision and expertise. This role encompasses not only the meticulous examination of construction projects but also the strategic oversight and coordination of inspection efforts to uphold the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

· Plans and organizes inspection schedules, allocating resources, and coordinating with relevant departments or teams to ensure timely and efficient inspections that include establishing priorities, setting objectives, and communicating inspections to stakeholders

· Performs thorough inspections of facilities, equipment, products, or processes according to established standards and procedures

· Evaluates compliance with regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and quality standards, utilizing appropriate inspection methods, tools, and equipment

· Ensures accurate documentation of inspection findings, including detailed reports, records, and corrective action plans

· Verifies the completeness and accuracy of inspection data, maintains proper documentation systems, and collaborates with quality assurance teams to address non-conformities and improve processes

· Provides guidance, training, and support to inspection personnel to enhance their skills, knowledge, and performance

· Conducts training sessions, workshops, and on-the-job coaching to ensure consistency in inspection and promote continuous improvement

· Identifies potential risks, hazards, and compliance issues through comprehensive risk assessments during inspections

· Evaluates the severity and likelihood of risks, recommends corrective actions, and collaborates with relevant stakeholders to implement preventative measures and mitigate risk effectively

· Serves as the primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders regarding inspection-related matters and steps in for the Senior Project Manager during their absence

· Takes charge of managing stakeholder communication, coordinating project activities, and making decisions on behalf of the Senior Project Manager as required

· Acts as a liaison between inspection teams, management, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders, the Lead Construction Inspector ensures seamless communication, collaboration, and alignment of objectives

· Assumes leadership duties when management is not present, ensuring uninterrupted project operations and maintaining productive engagement with stakeholders

· Mentor junior staff, fostering technical growth and consistency across the team

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

· Non-Exempt – Full-Time - Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

· Must be available to work additional hours as needed

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

· In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

· High School Diploma/GED

· Seven (7) years of experience in municipal infrastructure construction or other related fields

Licenses and Certifications

Required

· A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

· Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
