Position: Extended Care Director
Classification: Full-time, Exempt (9.5 months/year)
Primary Reporting Relationship: Elementary Assistant Principal
Secondary Reporting Relationship: Elementary Principal, Head of School
Supervisory Responsibilities: Extended Care Aides; Extended Care Student Workers
Ministry Areas: Bay Area Christian School - Extended Care
Interfaces: Students, parents, administrators, staff, and other stakeholders as appropriate

Job Purpose: The Extended Care Director is responsible for providing children a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment in the extended care program. This individual oversees the daily operations of before and after-school care, ensuring that each child is cared for in a Christian-based setting that emphasizes academic support, physical activity, and social-emotional development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Management:-
Oversee the daily operations of the extended care program, ensuring the safety, supervision, and well-being of children before and after regular school hours

Develop, implement, and maintain a structured schedule of activities, including academic support, physical activities, arts, crafts, and faith-based activities that align with the school's mission

Ensure the appropriate staffing levels and child-to-staff ratios are met to provide high-quality care
-
Develop and implement program policies and procedures that ensure consistency, safety, and compliance with state regulations and school guidelines
-
Evaluate and adjust the program based on feedback from parents, children, and staff to ensure it meets the needs of students and adheres to the mission of the school

Recruit, hire, and train staff and volunteers, ensuring they understand and uphold the values, expectations, and safety standards of the extended care program

Provide ongoing training in areas like child development, behavior management, Christian teachings, and emergency procedures
-
Supervise and support staff to ensure they are following the schedule, maintaining a safe environment, and implementing activities in line with the school's mission

Conduct regular staff meetings to encourage communication, share updates, and ensure alignment with the program's goals

Incorporate Christian values and teachings into activities and interactions, ensuring that the program provides a Christ-centered environment

Foster a positive spiritual environment that encourages children to grow in their faith, demonstrating Christian love, patience, and kindness

Provide direct supervision and care for children during extended care hours, ensuring their safety and well-being

Develop and maintain behavioral management strategies that are consistent with Christian values, promoting respect, kindness, and personal responsibility

Support students' individual needs, including working with parents to address any behavioral concerns
-
Organize and facilitate enriching activities that balance physical exercise, creativity, and academic enrichment
-
Maintain open lines of communication with parents, providing regular updates on their child's progress, activities, and any concerns
-
Address parent concerns professionally and promptly, offering solutions when necessary and working together to resolve issues
-
Organize parent meetings or informational sessions to keep families engaged with the extended care program
-
Ensure that all parent paperwork (e.g., enrollment forms, emergency contacts, health records) is up-to-date and complete
-
Ensure compliance with local and state regulations related to extended care programs, including health, safety, and child protection standards
-
Collaborate with administrators to develop, implement, and enforce safety protocols, including emergency evacuation plans, first aid procedures, and accident reporting
-
Monitor the physical environment of the extended care areas to ensure they are safe, clean, and conducive to learning and play

Conduct regular safety drills (e.g., fire drills, lockdown drills) to ensure children and staff are prepared for emergencies
-
Assist in managing the budget for the extended care program, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and expenses are controlled
-
Manage the purchase of materials and supplies for activities, making sure resources are used effectively and are in good condition
-
Monitor program costs and ensure that any spending aligns with the approved budget
-
Collect and analyze feedback from parents, students, and staff to evaluate the success of the program
-
Implement changes and improvements to the program based on evaluations, always aiming to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the service

Prepare regular reports for school leadership on the status of the program, including enrollment, feedback, financials, and any significant issues
Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or ministry setting, ideally in a leadership role
-
Experience working in a Christian school or faith-based environment is highly preferred

Current certification in CPR and First Aid (or willingness to obtain certification)

Ability to lead and inspire staff and students in a faith-based environment

Strong understanding of child development and effective behavior management techniques

Proficient in using basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace - Gmail, Docs, and Sheets) and managing online tools for attendance, scheduling, billing, and communication

Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations
