Broad Functions
The Security Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and supporting a team of Security Associates to ensure safe, secure, and positive experiences for all guests, artists, and staff during events at The Bushnell. Team Leaders provide direction and coordination for assigned areas such as lobbies, stage doors, and parking lots, ensuring security operations are executed professionally and in alignment with The Bushnell's policies, standards, and guest service expectations.
The Team Leader serves as a point of contact between Security Associates and the on-duty Security Coordinator or Manager, ensuring effective communication, professionalism, and consistency across all event security operations.
This position may provide support for additional Bushnell Security Services properties, including but not limited to the Warner Theatre in Torrington, Connecticut.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and guide assigned Security Associates during events, ensuring all posts are properly staffed and procedures are followed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the team, communicating instructions from the Coordinator or Manager on Duty.
- Monitor team performance, providing on-the-spot coaching and feedback to ensure professionalism, hospitality, and adherence to security protocols.
- Assist with opening and closing security procedures, including access control checks and event setup or teardown.
- Support and participate in active posts such as lobby, stage door, and parking lot coverage as needed.
- Respond promptly to incidents or emergencies, providing leadership and communication until the Coordinator or Manager assumes control.
- Conduct regular patrols to ensure compliance with safety, access, and guest service standards.
- Maintain clear and professional radio communication and accurate reporting throughout assigned shifts.
- Ensure team members maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance consistent with The Bushnell's standards.
- Complete and submit incident or shift reports as directed.
- Consistently and continuously identify and implement AI tools and emerging technologies that streamline workflows, enhance individual productivity, improve data analysis, and increase the overall efficiency and impact of organizational operations.
- Foster teamwork, reliability, and accountability within the assigned group.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Connecticut Guard Card required (training provided for qualified candidates).
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED required (training provided).
- Prior experience in security, public safety, or venue operations preferred.
- Leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead by example.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment in stressful or rapidly changing situations.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and composed during incidents or emergencies.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Uniform and Appearance
Uniforms are provided by The Bushnell. Security Associates are expected to maintain a neat, professional appearance at all times while on duty. Uniforms must be clean, pressed, and in good condition, and associates should practice good personal hygiene and grooming to present a clean and professional image consistent with The Bushnell's standards.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Highly motivated self-starter possessing the ability to succeed, goal oriented and able to inspire confidence. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent managerial skills with ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work under deadlines. Prior experience as assistant manager in property or facilities mgmt. and performing arts is desirable.
