Job Summary

Job Summary: Purdue University's Department of Anthropology is seeking applications for an in-residence (West Lafayette, IN) Assistant Professor of Practice with a focus on cultural anthropology and health. We are looking for a dynamic educator dedicated to teaching and mentoring students while connecting anthropology to today's pressing health concerns.

As a leading-edge Anthropology department with a public service mission, we emphasize teaching and learning about crucial contemporary challenges and preparing students for professional careers. Our department, housed in the College of Liberal Arts , features an exciting interface among students, faculty, practitioners, and community partners. This position will build on our collaborations across the university and foster linkages to Purdue's One Health Initiative , Purdue Innovates , College of Health and Human Sciences , Women's Global Health Institute , Center on Aging and the Life Course , and more. Our health anthropology faculty also collaborate in areas including Critical Disability Studies , Medical Humanities , and the Institute for a Sustainable Future . The Anthropology Department offers B.A., B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.

Position Responsibilities

Professors of Practice have a primary commitment to programmatic needs for instruction, engagement, and professional development of students. This position requires teaching four undergraduate courses per semester. Course priorities include health and cultural anthropology, and other related courses. Teaching will also include foundational courses in the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts Program . Teaching load may include large lectures and multiple sections of the same course. Purdue provides resources to support Professor of Practice initiatives, including professional development.

Education and Experience

Qualifications: A PhD in Anthropology or a closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment; a PhD in Anthropology is preferred. Candidates should have a background in health anthropology, teaching experience, and be prepared to support student professional development.
