Senior Systems Engineer – Contract to Hire / Hybrid (2–3 days in NH)

Job Summary:

The Senior Systems Engineer will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining core IT systems and infrastructure. This position requires hands-on experience with VMware, PowerShell scripting/automation, Citrix, NetScaler ADC, SQL, VEEAM backup solutions, Office 365 administration, Next-Generation Firewalls, routing and switching, and cloud technologies. The engineer will also provide technical guidance, help migrate legacy systems to the cloud, generate reports and documentation, and support day-to-day operations. This is a
contract-to-hire role
with a
hybrid schedule (2–3 days on-site in NH)
.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design, implement, and maintain system solutions, focusing on VMware virtualization and PowerShell automation.
  2. Manage VEEAM backup solutions to ensure robust data protection and recovery.
  3. Administer and optimize Citrix infrastructure and NetScaler ADC for efficient application delivery.
  4. Maintain and support Office 365 environments for users across the organization.
  5. Configure and manage Next-Generation Firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco Firepower).
  6. Utilize SQL for database management, optimization, and reporting.
  7. Research, design, and implement secure, high-performing, and standards-based infrastructure components.
  8. Provide solutions and support for migrating legacy systems to cloud environments.
  9. Generate timely and accurate reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
  10. Assist in project planning, estimating design and implementation efforts.
  11. Provide technical leadership and guidance within the systems engineering team.
  12. Collaborate with cybersecurity and IT teams to ensure systems meet security standards.
  13. Participate in after-hours support and on-call rotations as needed.
  14. Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes and systems using best practices.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    Minimum 5 years in systems engineering or related IT infrastructure roles.
  • Technical Skills:
  • VMware environments
  • Citrix administration and NetScaler ADC
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • SQL database management
  • VEEAM backup solutions
  • Office 365 administration
  • Next-Generation Firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco)
  • Routing and switching
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and migration strategies
  • Ability to provide after-hours support and participate in on-call rotations (up to 7 days per month).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., VCP, MCSE, CCNP) are a plus.
  • Proven ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and prioritize tasks in a high-pressure setting.
