Sr. Technical Lead, Mayah Design

Mayah Design is seeking a Sr. Technical Lead to drive our technical vision, strategy, and execution. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the product and technology from the ground up – refining system architecture, setting development roadmaps, and leading a small technical team. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to develop and scale the technical foundation of a startup preparing for its launch.

Location: Primarily hybrid (New York City-based) with flexibility for partial remote work.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead day-to-day technical operations: oversee engineering talent, collaborate with product and design, and set and manage development timelines and implementation plans
  • Own the full technical architecture – including backend services, AWS infrastructure, and databases – and ensure scalability, cost-efficiency, and clear documentation as we grow from 100 to 100,000+ users
  • Partner with leadership to translate product vision into technical strategy, evaluating trade-offs, roadmap, and long-term vision. Bring a consultative mindset that bridges business goals and technical execution
  • Set engineering standards, lead code and system design reviews, mentor junior team members, and help shape the growing technical team
  • Stay current with emerging tools and technologies; recommend improvements as we grow

What We're Looking For:

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years owning production-scale systems and mentoring engineers

  • Strong technical literacy with ability to read code, assess quality, and troubleshoot
  • Strategic, solutions-oriented mindset with an interest in product and business growth
  • Highly organized, excellent communicator, and team player
  • Familiarity with our Stack:
    Java Spring, JavaScript, React, HTML, CSS, Postgres SQL, AWS (EC2, RDS, Cognito, CloudWatch, VPC), computer vision machine learning, API development, Github
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without need for current or future sponsorship
