Tool Room Machinist
with strong experience in tooling development and powder metal tooling. This is a
12-month contract-to-hire
opportunity for a fast-growing Automotive manufacturing team.

Role Overview

The Tool Room Machinist will support daily operations of the tool room, coordinate tooling requirements, maintain tooling inventory, and provide hands-on support to Manufacturing, Engineering, Tooling Specialists, and Supervisors. This role reports directly to the
Tool Room Supervisor
.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and direct activities of Tooling Specialists
  • Place tooling orders and obtain quotes when needed
  • Maintain physical inventory and reorder tools to support production
  • Support daily tool room operations and equipment
  • Monitor tool quality and collaborate with manufacturing teams
  • Maintain the Tool Life Tracking System
  • Fabricate/repair jigs, fixtures, and verification rods
  • Support tooling receiving, inspection, and documentation
  • Assist in training and operator support
  • Ensure production readiness of Tool & Die
  • Support daily/monthly preventive maintenance (PMs)
  • Carry out other assigned responsibilities as needed

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience with
    Powder Metal Tooling
    (minimum 2 years)
  • Experience in
    Tooling Development
    , preferably in the automotive industry
  • Manual tool room equipment operation
  • CNC machining knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Drill press and sawing operations
  • Manual machining and layout
  • Ability to machine details to design prints
  • Proficiency with
    Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows

  • CNC milling knowledge (face forms after heat treat)

  • Use of hand tools and CNC-produced steel components

Must-Have Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years
    in powder metal tooling development
  • 2+ years
    in tooling development involving automotive customers (preferred)
  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, Windows)
