Job Title:Manager, Financial Operations
Department:FAES | Animal Sciences
Under the direction of the Chair of Animal Sciences and in coordination with the Senior Fiscal Officer for the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), the Fiscal Officer will manage the business and fiscal operations of a large, complex academic unit with facilities in both Columbus and Wooster. This role is critical in ensuring sound financial planning, analysis, and administration across multiple funding sources and operational areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead annual budget planning, implementation, and administration for assigned units.
- Provide expert guidance to the department Chair and administrative staff on budget preparation, system templates, and reporting tools.
- Identify and address budgetary concerns, recommending and implementing necessary adjustments.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis of complex fiscal reports.
- Manage multiple funding sources including grants, contracts, federal funds, development funds, and facility-generated revenue.
- Review and authorize fiscal transactions, journal entries, and procurement requests.
- Collaborate with college and university administrative staff; attend meetings and serve on committees.
- Direct supervision over two fiscal staff employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 6 years of relevant experience in business or fiscal administration.
- Strong knowledge of fund accounting and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (including pivot tables and complex spreadsheets).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a strong customer service orientation.
Desired Qualifications
- 8–12 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Experience with university fiscal policies, procurement, and travel procedures.
- Familiarity with grant and project management.
- Supervisory experience.
