Program Manager, Translational Sciences (remote)
The Organization
Additional Ventures is a nonprofit foundation whose mission is to cure single ventricle heart disease through transformative research and strategic investments that revolutionize treatment and care. Our newest initiative is our Translational Accelerator, which includes two multi-million dollar programs (device and therapeutics) that catalyze the development of innovative and novel treatments to meaningfully change the trajectory of this complex and life-limiting condition. Here, we partner closely with external accelerators, funders, and innovators to design and execute these high-impact programs that bridge gaps in the biomedical innovation and commercialization pipeline.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a mission-driven
Program Manager
with a strong background in biomedical device development to help implement and strengthen Additional Ventures' growing translational science portfolio. With a primary focus on our device initiative within the Translational Accelerator, this individual will report to the Director of Translational Sciences, working collaboratively to advance high-impact collaborations and support innovators translating device concepts into patient impact. This role offers a unique vantage point across academia, industry, and philanthropy — combining scientific insight with program execution and cross-sector coordination.
The Program Manager will oversee day-to-day program execution, managing applications, reviews, awardee cohorts, and partner coordination, while contributing subject matter expertise and adaptive problem-solving to advance the success of funded projects. They will work directly on device development projects, engaging deeply with the current landscape and related translational fields to anticipate challenges, surface insights, and help facilitate solutions for awardees and program partners.
Key Responsibilities
The Program Manager will operationalize AV's translational programs with a primary responsibility for the Device Accelerator to ensure efficient execution and effective coordination with partners, while contributing technical insight and analysis to support program design and evaluation.
Program Operations and Partner Coordination
- Execute AV's translational program plans and milestones in close collaboration with the Director of Translational Sciences.
- Manage day-to-day operations for the Device Accelerator, including application intake, review, selection, and award management.
- Coordinate timelines, deliverables, and communications across partners, reviewers, and grantees.
- Develop and maintain core materials and tools (e.g., RFPs, templates, dashboards).
- Design and refine operational systems to be efficient, transparent, and scalable as programs evolve.
Scientific and Portfolio Engagement
- Engage directly with applicants and awardees to understand project needs, identify relevant challenges, and connect them with targeted scientific, clinical, or strategic support.
- Apply knowledge of medical device development and translational research to interpret project feasibility, milestones, and regulatory pathways (e.g., IDE, HDE), particularly in pediatric and cardiovascular applications.
- Support scientific due diligence and provide input during review and milestone planning, synthesizing partner and expert feedback to inform program recommendations.
- Analyze portfolio outcomes and landscape trends (e.g., follow-on funding, IP, clinical progress) to assess program impact and surface insights for future planning.
Strategic and Cross-Functional Contributions
- Work closely with the Director to maintain and continuously improve operational systems and partner processes across AV's translational programs.
- Monitor developments across pediatric, rare disease, and cardiovascular innovation landscapes to support AV's translational strategy and program planning.
- Contribute to planning documents, benchmarking analyses, and strategic briefs that capture program insights and emerging opportunities.
- Support communications and community engagement through applicant webinars, FAQs, and public-facing materials.
- Coordinate agreement review and tracking in partnership with AV's legal advisors to ensure alignment and compliance.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will bring a blend of technical expertise, professional polish, and sound judgment — comfortable engaging with funders, investors, and external partners while ensuring close coordination with the Director to maintain strategic alignment.
- PhD or MD in biomedical engineering, medical devices, or a related discipline. Exceptional candidates with a master's degree and substantial relevant experience will be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in translational research, device development, or biomedical innovation, with demonstrated ability to integrate scientific insight into program execution and decision support.
- Demonstrated success supporting or managing complex, multi-stakeholder biomedical research programs.
- Deep familiarity with the device development lifecycle — including prototyping, regulatory pathways (IDE/HDE), and translational funding mechanisms.

- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, maintain alignment, and communicate proactively with leadership.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience working with foundations, research consortia, or open science initiatives.
- Knowledge of the rare disease, cardiovascular, or pediatric device development/research landscape.
- Ability to balance scientific curiosity with pragmatic, outcome-oriented decision-making.
- Comfort operating in a distributed, fast-paced environment with a strong sense of accountability and teamwork.
- Experience reviewing contracts and supporting agreement negotiations is a plus.
