About the job
About Noble Carbon:
At Noble Carbon, we're at the forefront of grid-edge technology in the residential space. We've designed an energy management system that fits in a circuit breaker. It's easy to install, can be retrofit into most main panels in the US, and is intentionally very affordable. Adopters get insights and analytics to better understand their electricity usage, and controls to better optimize their bills. Contractors get a tool to help win more electrification jobs. And utilities or building managers get a fleet-level view of how electricity is being consumed.
We're building cutting-edge technology to solve complex problems and we're looking for our newest team member. We're a team that thrives in a collaborative, fast paced environment with significant opportunities to create, learn, and grow. Join us as we build the products that enable the electrification shift while stabilizing the grid
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Masters in a related field preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of professional experience in electrical hardware and systems design.
- PCBA Design: Proven experience managing the entire PCBA development process, from schematic capture and component selection to guiding layout, generating BOMs, and working with contract manufacturers. Experience with UL design best practices as well as requirements.
- EDA Tools: Proficiency with EDA software such as Altium Designer, KiCad, or OrCAD.
- Power Systems: Experience in designing and analyzing power systems, including AC/DC converters and linear regulators, as well as evaluating and mitigating noise and emissions.
- Embedded Systems: Strong background in embedded system design, including microcontroller selection, hardware/firmware integration, and familiarity with communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, USB). Experience with UL functional safety devices and requirements preferred.
- Hands-On Skills: Demonstrable experience with board bring-up, debugging, and validation using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role will be instrumental in developing robust and efficient power systems, analogue and digital circuits, and will be responsible for the full lifecycle of our PCBA designs. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of mechanical, firmware, and software engineers to bring innovative products from concept to market. This is a hands-on role that requires a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical lab skills, and novel problem solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test analog and digital circuits.
- Manage the end-to-end PCBA development process.
- Collaborate with external vendors and contract manufacturers (CMs) to oversee PCBA prototyping, manufacturing, and testing.
- Perform board bring-up, debugging, and validation of new hardware designs.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and quality standards.
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including schematics, design specifications, and test reports.
- Ensure products meet regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., FCC, CE, UL, RoHS).
- Collaborate with the firmware team on embedded system design and integration.
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary and equity package in line with experience.
- Meaningful equity in a high-growth start-up.
- Generous paid time off and company holidays.
- Opportunities for professional development and continued learning.
- A collaborative and innovative work culture with a clear impact on the final product and our world.
