The Atlantic Community School District is seeking a Transportation Director to lead and manage all aspects of the district?s student transportation program. This position is vital to ensuring students have safe, reliable, and efficient transportation so they can fully participate in academic and extracurricular programs.

Position Summary

The Transportation Director oversees the planning, organization, and daily operation of the district?s transportation system in compliance with school board policies, state and federal regulations, and safety standards. This role supervises transportation staff, manages bus routes and maintenance, and serves as a key liaison between the district, families, and the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement transportation services in accordance with school board policy and state regulations
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate bus drivers, mechanics, and transportation personnel
  • Develop and monitor daily bus routes for student pick-up and delivery
  • Direct a preventive maintenance program for school and activity buses
  • Maintain vehicle, payroll, inventory, and compliance records
  • Establish and enforce transportation safety standards
  • Conduct driver in-service meetings and perform spot checks of buses in operation
  • Coordinate required inspections with state and local agencies
  • Assist with budget preparation and purchasing of supplies and equipment
  • Serve as a liaison with parents regarding transportation concerns and special requests
  • Advise the Superintendent on road and weather conditions during inclement weather
  • Coordinate transportation for field trips and special trips
  • Assist principals with transportation-related discipline issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver?s License (CDL)
  • Demonstrated skills in budgeting, record keeping, and purchasing
  • Ability to supervise staff and collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community members
  • Knowledge of school bus safety, maintenance, and inspection practices
  • Mechanical skills sufficient to assist with bus maintenance and repairs
