Inova Fairfax Hospital Campus is seeking a Psychiatric Emergency Clinician IV to join our new EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment and Healing) team.  You will provide essential clinical and case management support to our patients in a short stay psychiatric observation unit.  This unique opportunity combines elements of direct patient care, providing individual crisis intervention therapy, group facilitation and case management to patients with behavioral health needs.  The Psychiatric Emergency Clinician will be instrumental in facilitating collaboration and communication among multidisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, and techs as well as community referrals.  This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the holistic care of adult patients in an observation psychiatric setting while also providing valuable support to clinical and administrative operations. This role is full-time working Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM. (Alternate scheduling options may be considered based on departmental needs and can be discussed during the interview process.)

Psychiatric Emergency Clinician IV Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a clinical leader by providing clinical supervision to team members seeking licensure as well as supervision/mentoring Psych Emergency Clinicians I, II and III while serving as a clinical leader within the team. 
  • Serves as clinical expert providing a range of therapeutic services, programming and behavioral interventions to assist the client in achieving progress towards the goals and objectives of the individualized treatment plans.
  • Provides care, recommendations and referrals autonomously while striving to increase professional knowledge, develop expertise, and work toward certifications. 
  • Assesses and diagnoses mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department specific and evidenced based assessment identifying patient and family goals and need. In the absence of the manager or Director, may provide program/department/unit clinical leadership. 
  • May provide individual crisis intervention, group therapy or family support sessions for patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's Degree, Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders or Behavioral Health related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of Five years of experience, Three of which are post-licensure, working in the psychiatric or mental health field with the seriously mentally ill.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support required upon start
    • Approved Clinical Supervisor certification within 3 months of hire
    • Vistelar required within 6 Months of hire
  • License: one of the following required upon start.
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), 
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), 
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), 
    • Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP),
    • Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP).
