DescriptionDo you have your Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration along with at least one (1) year of general accounting experience? Chatham County has a great opportunity for Accountant I in Finance. If you have experience in accounts receivable and payroll processing, we encourage you to apply.
Examples of Duties- Perform technical accounting, financial recording, and account analysis duties.
- Use your knowledge of accounts receivable systems to oversee customer account adjustments.
- Interpret accounting reports and records, analyze accounting data, and audit accounts.
- Use our financial management information system to reconcile and update the subsidiary ledger to the general ledger.
- Use accounting software, spreadsheet programs, and Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel daily.
- Review and interpret policies, laws, and procedures related to work assignments.
- Process pension payroll and serve as a backup for Chatham County employee payroll.
- Perform other payroll related duties, including, but not limited to, pension refunds, direct deposit, payroll tax payments, and regulatory reporting.
- Use your communication and customer service skills as you respond to employees, customers, and citizen requests.
- Perform specialized accounting tasks, account and bank reconciliations, and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual invoices to outside agencies.
- Perform work that will require flexibility and will often involve the stress of time-sensitive deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field, and
- At least one (1) year of general accounting experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Payroll processing experience.

- Accounting software, spreadsheet programs, and Microsoft Office products
- Customer service and communication
- Analytical skills
During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
