Role and Responsibilities

Estimator III's (Lead Estimators) supervise the efforts of an estimating team, which includes two Estimators. They are responsible for ensuring that proposals and estimates are complete, accurate, and on-time.

The specific Roles & Responsibilities of the Lead Estimator can be broken down in to these main categories:

  • Proposals & Estimating
    • Develop estimates and proposals for turn-key electric heat tracing systems, inclusive of the electric heat tracing design, controls and monitoring plan, power distribution layout (sizing/routing of conduit, wire, cable, tray), thermal insulation BOM, and the construction execution strategy.
    • Conduct thorough review of customer-supplied technical specifications & develop Basis For Estimate.
    • Initiate/lead Pre-Estimate Kick-Off Meeting with Sales, Business Development, Proposals, and other appropriate cross-functional department leads.
    • Develop scope of work using client-supplied documents.
    • Create work packages from piping isometrics and/or piping plan drawings.
    • Delegate tasks to Estimators and provide instruction/guidance.
    • Develop and/or review preliminary Electric Heat Trace designs prepared by self or Estimators.
    • Develop and/or review preliminary power distribution designs including wire and conduit layouts prepared by self or Estimators.
    • Provide clear communication of all correspondence and bid clarifications relative to estimates.
    • Act as primary customer contact for estimating.
    • Coordinate final estimate review sessions with management.
    • Proactively identify and aid with implementation of process improvement opportunities in Proposals & Estimating Department.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

This individual will be required to have the following qualifications and education requirements:

  • 4-year or equivalent degree in a technical and/or closely associated field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience; with specific focus on the industrial sector preferred
  • 3+ years of estimating and proposals experience preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with heat trace required
