Technical work assisting the Professional Engineer and Senior Professional Engineer (Signal and Street Light Design Section) with all aspects of design and construction of traffic signals and street lights. Primary work tasks include design, review, construction, inspection, and coordination of County traffic signals, street lights, and intersection improvement projects. Coordinates with consultants, other county and state offices, utility companies, and contractors. Creates and maintains project files. Designs and maintains databases or spreadsheets for Signal Section. Identifies the needs to upgrade signal design standards based on current practice and recent Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) design updates. Reviews construction plans, permit applications, plats for compliance, cost estimates, traffic impact analyses, drainage reports, and deeds for compliance with the Palm Beach County (PBC) subdivision and platting regulation ordinances. Drives and conducts site visits; draws sketches; takes field measurements and surveys and calculates elevations; photographs sites. Prepares Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) in-house signal and lighting plans and updates old plans.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification supplemented by a certificate of completion for a related vocational training program OR two (2) years of college-level coursework (must specify 60-semester/90-quarter hours) in Drafting, Civil Engineering, Data Processing, Computer Science, or Business Administration; minimum of two (2) years of experience in work related to traffic.
Equivalencies:
1. Graduation from high school/equivalent AND four (4) years of related experience
2. Related Associate's/unrelated Bachelor's Degree AND one (1) year of related experience
3. Unrelated Associate's Degree AND three (3) years of related experience
4. Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or closely related.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE WITH: PBC County and/or State of Florida traffic standards and specifications; working with contractors, consultants and/or utility agencies.
