Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician/Lab Technician to join our healthcare team. This role involves providing exceptional optical services, assisting with laboratory tasks, and supporting patient care within a clinical setting. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of ophthalmology, medical terminology, and laboratory procedures, with experience in retail sales and medical records management. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that emphasizes patient-centered care, utilizing EMR systems such as Crystal PM and other clinic software. Candidates should have a solid understanding of eye anatomy, vision insurances, and optics to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear and provide professional optical consultations.
- Take precise measurements for lenses and frames, ensuring proper fit and comfort.
- Operate laboratory equipment to craft and adjust lenses according to prescriptions.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in EMR systems like Crystal PM and other electronic health records platforms.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
- Conduct basic eye assessments, including vital signs when necessary, especially in senior care or pediatrics settings.
- Support laboratory tasks such as lens edging, mounting, and quality control checks.
- Manage retail sales transactions efficiently, including retail math calculations and inventory management.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques during procedures to maintain a sterile environment.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Assist with billing and coding processes related to optical services when required.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in optical or laboratory settings preferred; laboratory experience is highly valued.
- Knowledge of ophthalmology, anatomy, medical, and optical terminology relevant to eye care.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Crystal PM or similar platforms; experience with vision billing is a plus.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations concerning patient privacy and data security.
- Experience working with pediatrics or senior care populations is advantageous.
- Retail sales experience including retail management skills and retail math proficiency.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to patients.
